Clear choice as national champions., IMO.

Also, according to USA Today Missouri is on the bubble. I thought they were in the second group of last four out. At least according to Lunardi.

The way KU played is last half a dozen games or so. I really am more worried about making past the round of 64/32 than who the #1 seed is in our bracket.

It could be pretty brutal. I'm curious who are first couple of games are against. If we can manage to make it to the second with a healthy Embiid the sky is the limit.

I can support this. We get a team with 1 solid pg and a couple of average to below average 3 of shooters and we go home early.

Dribble drive kick out is this team's kryptonite.

I'm honestly more worried about a guard who can penetrate our defense, assuming Embiid out. Our pg defense is so bad -- which would put our post defense in pretty difficult spots.

I'm also curious to see who WSU could potentially play in the next game of 8/9 winner. Imagine if it could be Oklahoma State. Wow.

It works both ways, we got the 1 last year by winning in KC. Of course all that got us was Michigan woefully underseeded as a 4 with a Sagarin in the top 10. The only way KU drops to a 3 is if they use the Embiid argument. The committee usually rewards tough schedules

Zero chance they dont get in, amazing they choke away virtually every close game they play in. Im not sure why they choose to play like 12 guys. They need to narrow down their rotation and instead of splitting 40 minutes of Woodbury & Olaseni, they need to make it so Olaseni plays 80% of those minutes

KU gets the #2 seed as expected. Not sure why anybody ever doubted it with their resume. As for their bracket, it looks pretty favorable to me, at least as favorable as a crapshoot tournament can be. They dodged the possible difficult teams in the 2nd round and the #3 seed Syracuse is playing the worst of any top team right now.

A warning, though, about the #15, Eastern Kentucky. They're solid offensively and jack more threes than just about anybody in D1 basketball (44% of their shots are from distance). It will be much more of a random game than it would be otherwise as a result.

Espn cracks me up. They are whining about Louisville being a 4 and using bpi to prove their point. It's obvious and the selection committee has said it over and over that they use rpi. If you look at seeds they line up pretty close to rpi. Louisville s strength of schedule is 97. That's not much better than Wichita state. Rpi sos also explains ku being a 2 seed.

One of the criticism that basketball fans level at the football postseason, whatever incarnation you want to choose, is that people vote rather than compare things objectively. Then it leads to disputes where "everyone knows" this or that...

Of course, this is a question with an obvious answer, since they aren't taking the top 64 teams in the country, but a smattering from conferences large and small. It isn't about being scientific because it's all eyeball test kind of stuff.

That is what people like about the basketball postseason, it's a crapshoot

UNM was the beneficiary of bullshit non-calls on Bairstow all year because the conference commisioner hates SDSU and didn't want them to be their champions.

Once non-MWC refs are calling the games, he won't get away with murder like he did this year.

Well they have the Lee way to move a team up or down a seed line. Plus they like to give the top seeds favorable locations. Not to mention they have to take into account injuries as well as how a team played down the stretch.

And before anyone brings up the ku embiid comparison to Cincinnati years ago it's not the same since there is a chance that embiid comes back.

You don't have to explain to me why they kept SMU out. It's their RPI (which is a product of their schedule). The problem is that SMU is better than at least two dozen teams in this tournament and they're not going to be in it because the committee relies on an archaic measure to select and seed teams.

He hacks and gets away with it as no other player in the country does. He doesn't try to be sneaky. He just winds up and hacks. Well I agree that the rpi is flawed. But ESPN tried to make their argument based on a ratings system that they created (BPI) and, as far as I know, only they use. The NCAA should come up with a better, more detailed ratings system. But until they do so, they will continue to use RPI.

Baylor-Nebraska: Old Big 12 teams, did Baylor get hot at the right time? Can Nebraska finally break through?
VCU-Stephen F. Austin: The Lumberjacks have won 28 straight. Mirage? UCLA seems susceptible as a second round opponent. Your Cinderella may be lurking...

exactly! NM will not be a push over.

KU will screw me over somehow in my bracket somehow....someway!
if I pick them to win, they lose. at this point I have NM taking them down so....they'll win! :cuss:

Obviously rooting for Kansas to win the whole thing, but looking forward to watching the Shockers as well. If Kentucky gets by K-State, that will be a fun matchup to watch.

is there a CP bracket like last year?

My second round games to watch:

Gonzaga-Oklahoma State: How far can Marcus Smart drag his carcass of a team?
Baylor-Nebraska: Old Big 12 teams, did Baylor get hot at the right time? Can Nebraska finally break through?
VCU-Stephen F. Austin: The Lumberjacks have won 28 straight. Mirage? UCLA seems susceptible as a second round opponent. Your Cinderella may be lurking...
Colorado-Pitt: Strong mid-seed game. I wish Spencer Dinwiddie was healthy for this.

Those "first" round games will always be known as the play in games to me.

Welp...looks like Harvard will be my annual 12th seeded Ivy League team upset pick. It typically is Harvard out of that conference, but I remember picking Cornell to the sweet 16 in recent years. It's just a thing I do. I don't know who to pick in most of these games.

God, Iowa pisses me off.

Only they could find a way to get in without getting in.

On a serious note, Coach McCaffrey's 13 year old son is having surgery to remove a thyroid tumor the day of the play-in game. Apparently Coach flew with the team to Dayton today, is flying back tomorrow night for his son's surgery in Iowa City, and then flying back to Dayton in time for the game.

It really puts basketball in perspective.

Yup, just read about this... Praying that his surgery is a successful one and Fran can make it back in time to hopefully turn this team around to the team that was once projected to be in the FINAL FOUR.

I really wished I'd have taken a picture of the ESPN segment when they were covering it earlier in the year... I think it might've been right after the Ohio State game or somewhere in there.

They were covering it on a segment on either SportsCenter or NCAA Basketball Live. 1 or two of the guys had Iowa has their surprise final four team... Of course this was before they shit the bed the 2nd half of the season...

I'll ask around some of my Hawkeye friends to see if I can get ahold of the story or a picture.

Ouch.

Hope all turns out well for the kid.

I've got a soft spot for kids. I always thought it was bad form when ESPN showed Hoibergs kid crying. Also thought it was poor form for KU fans to make fun.

Kids are off limits.

I'm actually glad Wichita has a tough bracket, that means their annoying haters can shut up if they do well in it. Pointless arguments over schedules aside, the Shockers pass the eye test in my book and are seriously quite capable of beating anyone in their bracket.

They're tough. They play tough and effort is never a problem. That's pretty good qualities to have in the tournament.

The big weakness I see is they don't have a lot inside. It may be enough but it's hard to tell given who they've played. I could see a team with good inside game thrashing them. Their guards I think can play with anybody. Not so sure about their inside game. I think they've got a pretty good draw for that. Kentucky has the best big men but they don't run and offense very well and I think WSU can put enough pressure on their guards to make entry passes tough and probably force enough turnovers to offset it.

If KSU beats UK, KSU definitely brings the beef inside but I don't think they're consistent enough to beat WSU.

Duke has nothing inside. I think they match up really well with Duke. They're going to have to score points to get out of there but I think their strength matches up well with Dukes fireworks, as long as Cotton doesn't get in foul trouble guarding Parker (I presume that's how they'll match up).

Louisville has some pieces inside. Admittedly I haven't watched much of Louisville but it doesn't seem like they'll have to defend elite scoters down there.

Michigan will be tough. They spread it out enough that help side will be tough.

Wichita state is tough. Damn tough. But I think a team with some good inside presence can take them down. Or a team like Iowa State that will make the bigs defend the entire court. Either way a team is going to have to bring the effort to win on top of playing sound disciplined ball. Even if WSU has an off night they'll turn a team over and get enough hustle points to over come it.

There are a lot of good teams that can take them down, but WSU is playing good ball and it will take a heck of a game from any team to take them down.
