Going to have to agree as strongly as I can here. In the modern world this is what I would call a recipe for disaster. As sweet as the fairytale of you two being together forever might be. The reality is she probably has dudes hitting her up left and right online and in person. Curiosity, due to the sheer number of options, almost always wins out. It's gotta be tough on you also.

I'd tell any dude to have fun and date different girls during his 20s and look to lock something down at 30-40 that is 5-10 years younger than you. There is an unbelievable power shift when you turn thirty that is worth waiting for and if you take care of yourself, build a career, and live in a larger city you will have all the power.

Keep telling yourself that she doesn't want you anymore and there's nothing you can do to change that. Nothing at all. Think back to all the little signs that she was pulling away, they were probably invisible back then but clearer now. If you don't accept that its over and that you are now a single man, you will just torture yourself (that was my biggest mistake).

Make a list of all the things she did to treat you badly or that you didn't like about her. In your case, obsess on the fact that she didn't even have the integrity to break up with you first, she cheated on you instead. Replace the longing and flow of good memories with anger and bad memories.

Get out and meet people - not just women and not just for sex/relationships. Just get some friends. They are invaluable.

Good luck man. For me, that chick married my best friend ~6 months after we split. Thank god I was able to use the buffet of girls at college to cope or I might have went the KC Native route. The guys who knocked them up were the only ones to survive the flip that switches in their heads in their early 20s, and that was probaly mostly because they couldn't afford to run away and guys with money at that age weren't interested in dealing with their heathens. I can't speak to the whole suicide thing, but the theory I have is that women deal with breakups better because they can get attention without trying. Its tough for a man to get rejected by someone close to them and then go risk it again with a stranger. Women however can go out and have someone flirt with them just for being there. It might not lead to love or sex, but it reminds them that they have options. You don’t see the guys who get all the girls moping over a breakup very long, and women without a ton of options take breakups as bad as anyone.

In my case I like to blame the booze and the hope that the relationship wasn't over yet. Once I was sober for a few days I realized how idiotic I was being.

I'm still rather young, but if there's anything I've learned so far it's that alcohol will never make you feel better overall. I know this thread is typically for "did you get your dick wet" comments, but my ex is driving me nuts. She ended it a few weeks ago but it was kind of mutual - we had been fighting constantly.

Now she won't leave me the hell alone. I blocked her from my phone, facebook, and ipad. This angered her. Now she is sending emails to all my accounts saying I was the best, she can't believe its over, she will never love anyone like she did me, she wants to run to me but can't. All ending with "sigh, goodbye". This is utter insanity, but always gives me the impression she wants to work things out, and then suddenly reinforces the breakup.

Its almost like she can sense I have a date tonight and wants to screw with my head.

My ex-wife did that after I left her. After a while all that turned to hatred, even to the point when I signed up for Facebook in 2008 she was the first or second person to try and add me and when I refused, she sent me a message telling me how much she hated me and how happy she was with her current whatever the fuck he was. I really have only heard from her a couple of times since then.

I recently saw a girl I used to have a thing for when we were teenagers. It was from way back when I lived in another state so we've barely talked and haven't seen each other in about 5 years or so. She's got a boyfriend who she has a child with and they live together.

I had been up there for a few days and we saw each other a couple times. Nothing happened.

About a month after I came back home she called me randomly one day and told me she had just found out that her boyfriend had been cheating for months, at least.
