The broncos essentially only need a QB like alex smith to become SB contenders again in my eyes. He would easily be able to play how manning played during their superbowl run.

Its hard however, seeing us trade him to a divisional rival, so going to Arizona would make more sense.

I can see a round 1 pick and a future round 3 being the value... Dude put up 4k Yards in 15 games, best passer rating in the NFL, and has a great resume while he played for us.... Your trading for the 2018 alex smith, not the 2007 alex smith.

In that case, players should be able to choose what team they play for, and how much they get paid. All players are disposable - NFL contracts aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Players hold out when they want more money, they get traded when the organization can get value out of them.

Run it like a fucking business, which is exactly what it is. One of many reasons the Pats are successful - they do what's best for the team, not what's best for the players' feelings.

There are a few problems. But Smith is most definitely one of the biggest. The difference between Smith and Mahomes is stark and undeniable. Even teams with good defenses have to have quarterbacks that can make plays when it is needed the most. And now we have that in Mahomes.

There's only a few teams that would benefit... Cleveland, Arizona, and New York (Jets) are the most needy at first glance, then Jacksonville. Washington is a distant maybe at this point. If all falls through with Cousins, I'd guess they'll take a shot. I don't see the Giants being a player, and they are set to have the 2nd pick, since they're going to likely draft Eli's replacement and groom him. Buffalo has Tyrod, so what is their net gain?

Based on the compensation I'd expect, a 2nd and 5th, the Browns and Jets both have an extra pick in each of those rounds.

The Cardinals are the team not in position to snag a youngster, sitting around 15...

Tough call. Ultimately, I think its the Browns.

Wow, this list is pretty revealing, most of the guys on there were drafted AND developed by the team they represented in the Superbowl. I don't see any cuck choke artist band-aid QBs on that list (Kaepernick and Grossman are the only stand-outs and their teams lost the game). This list just proves that 90% of the teams that make the Superbowl have a drafted and developed QB and 100% of the winners have drafted and developed their starting QBs. If someone argues in favor for band-aid QBs as the answer is basically someone who is suffering from mental delusion.

I think Dorsey sells Alex Smith on the idea that he'll play behind a good offensive line, and that they'll spend a shit load of money this year to make that team playoff ready, just as Dorsey did year 1 for the Chiefs.

Alex is refinanced for what his new role will be with the Chiefs (back up and mentor?) and he will be here next year. I do not know if it will make him a permanent fixture, or more marketable, but at $$$20M the chiefs are not taking the option.

Nobody's dropping that that kind of cash, that Alex will go to, unless Oakland does and who knows, Smith may like that move. Gruden certainly showed interest...

Just like Clay and Tiger, the sooner its done the better it will be. The question really is, Who's our back up going to be in 2018?

Or he can go this year while he's still valuable. I'd bet if he goes to another team he can get something like a 3 year $30m deal with the $20m he's due this year converted into a signing bonus. That's a great deal for Alex at this point in his career.

He's not valuable to us. But this loss did nothing to hurt his value in the trade market. Alex Smith was a great add for the Chiefs back in 2009. He will be a great add to a team that is desperate for qb stability.

The Chiefs are somewhat predictable and I'm saying he will be here next year. There is always someone willing to do stupid things but there are only 31 options and less than 10% of the 32 may even kick the tires.

We will either give him away (cheap) or like the dealership's GSM's ,ugly duckling, trade that he fell in love with. You market the piss out of it, promise hookers and blow for a spiff, but eventually accept it's there for a while. Smith's not going anywhere in a trade unless management wants to take the hit just to wash their hands of him, and that's not happening. He'll be on the books next year, the question is in what capacity. Look at Dawson's last few years where he shared starting duties with Livingston, much like I have suggested in earlier post could happen with Smith.

I'm torn on Peters. He is one of a kind playmaker on defense. But he is so unpredictable. I love him as a weapon but is he worth the risk?

That said, Peters could bring more than just a first round pick, IMO. Especially to the Raiders. I wonder if something like a first and their injured rookie cornerback (Conley) for Peters is something that could work to our benefit?

Same with Smith. A second rounder and another young starter for the defense sounds like something I could live with.

I think we need to reload more than rebuild. I'd like to see Veach have some ammo going into the draft. Trading Peters sounds crazy but if it could help us get better across the board I might be open to it.

Except for the part where they probably want Mahomes to have the vast majority of practice reps in the offseason. I am guessing they will find someone who really needs a solid QB and is willing to trade for Alex pretty soon.

Jacksonville is going to be a very obvious landing spot if they lose this game. Bortles is certainly not winning it for them. Defense is gonna have to start scoring TD's or something.

Jacksonville does make sense . They have a young SB defense and an Alex Smith QB is all they need to win it all . they will have a low draft pick so they might be willing to give up a 1 and 3 and 6 type deal. He would be worth it for them. And alex may be happy to go there.

There's a tradeoff obviously. They get better but they also lose whatever pick(s) they surrender.

I think a lot of QBs can win the SB with that defense, Alex included. I'm sure he'd love to go there. Veach might do Dorsey a favor though...

I find it hilarious that most people in the other thread talk about how awful Alex is and how he can't win the big game and how he is so limited. Then in this thread, everyone is talking about how he can make the Jags SB contenders. He's ugly when he's yours, but beautiful when you are trying to sell him. And then the arguing about about how the Jags can't beat the Browns offer...as if the Browns have offered anything! I think some people are going to be disappointed in the return Alex gets.

I don't think anybody's saying that. Otherwise we wouldn't propose sending him to an AFC competitor. I don't see Jacksonville doing it. But Buffalo is a team that would gladly accept window dressing. And Cleveland is a team that badly needs him.

How would the Chiefs fans feel if the Chiefs had the #1 pick in the draft and several "possible" franchise QBs sitting there just waiting to be drafted But the Chiefs trade 2 2nd round picks for Alex Smith. Chiefs Kingdom would blow up and the internet would melt. Hell, CP would freak the **** out if they didn't start Mahomes next year. But some of you think they Browns are going to not draft a QB with the #`1 pick and take Alex instead? Really?

The Browns aren't the Chiefs. You can't even make that comparison.

I know plenty of Browns fans. They want a stable QB. They want to stop sucking. And they don't want to waste another 3 years on yet another first round QB bust (see Couch, Manziel, Weeden, Quinn).

They will probably trade for Alex Smith and draft a QB. And that is a terrific play.

I find it hilarious that most people in the other thread talk about how awful Alex is and how he can't win the big game and how he is so limited. Then in this thread, everyone is talking about how he can make the Jags SB contenders. He's ugly when he's yours, but beautiful when you are trying to sell him. And then the arguing about about how the Jags can't beat the Browns offer...as if the Browns have offered anything! I think some people are going to be disappointed in the return Alex gets.

I think it's more of a commentary on how terrible Bortles is. Alex is a very solid game manager. That's pretty much all the Jaguars need right now considering how great their defense is.

Alex Smith will be 34 as of May 2018 and staring at his 13th NFL career.

62.4% career completion percentage
31,888 passing yards
183 TDs / 96 INTs
another 2,433 rushing yards and 14 rushing TD

In 2013, Alex was just turning 29 and KC gave up the 34th (R2) pick in 2013 and another R2 pick in 2014. So, two 2nd rounders.

5 years later... Alex has had his best run in KC and his best season in 2017, but the same overall results and the 2nd fewest wins in his 5 years with KC.

And, he's 34 with a big price tag... $20.6M cap hit for the one remaining year. That's big $ for 1 year via trade.

Bills, Jets, Browns, Jags (?) or Cardinals - I think the trading partner has to be one of those 5 teams.

Browns seems too obvious, but maybe that's the point - they have 2 R1, 3 in R2... twelve overall. They have the power to go draft a young QB and take on Smith with a late R2 trade in return.

They should have the $ and the patience to ride out the year with Smith and let the rookie learn. Will they do it?

Other than that ... the Jags scream logical next choice, but they're getting by in spite of Bortles. Do they make a Grbac like play and hope it works?

At worse, he’s the top slot CB in the NFL and at best he’s potentially a very good CB that gives the Chiefs a top tier CB tandem in the NFL. He’s young and a playmaker like peters. Now we need to find some pass rush and another ILB and depth.
