Loading up this defensive staff is just awesome.

If they are well coached, the Chiefs might have a dynasty in the making. I’ll have tons of confidence in our SB chances this upcoming season because of it alone.

I doubt anyone expects Spags to stay more than two seasons, and I expect Andy hired him because they both need each other and they both know that Spags will get another shot at a HC job if he can help get the Chiefs a Super Bowl ring. House has put himself in the perfect place. Andy is apparently a king maker and helps his staff go out and flourish. House will be the next DC up after Spags leaves. House will be a DC for a few seasons before he may go try and be a HC as well, or he may flame out and suck as a DC, but he will have learned. This is a perfect marriage.

edit: Fuck. I'm stoked for this guy to coach Jones (and everybody else).

"House’s inside linebackers – both of whom were first-year starters – contributed significantly to UK’s success. Sophomore Jordan Jones led the team in tackles (109) and tackles for loss (15.5) while earning second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors. He also became an adept blitzer with four quarterback sacks and a team-high nine QB hurries. Junior Courtney Love was third on the team in tackles with 76 and his season was highlighted by the fumble recovery that set up the game-winning drive at Louisville."

Now look at ya ROFL

I don't think I would consider myself to be one in the "butt hurt" group, but I certainly understand their position. Chiefs fans deservedly wanted a new hire that would bring in a new culture to a very weak defense. The assumption was/is that a younger guy that is hungry would be the best option. Spags is not young, but I do think he is hungry to get back to head coaching. There is nothing wrong with him wanting to use the Chiefs to springboard to a future job. I am just hoping that it is a strong enough motivation for him to bust his ass, the players' asses, the assistant coaches asses because the DC job under Reid is a known place where one can coach from a position of security and leisure no matter the outcome on the field.

With all that bullshit said, House is the type of guy that those "butt hurt" fans wanted. He has a great resume of success with stud players. Now, I do not know if he helped make the players or if the players help make him, but he appears to have his shit together and understand the modern game of football.

The Chiefs have hired Dave Merritt as their new defensive backs coach, per Yates (Twitter link). Merritt was actually hired as the Jaguars’ assistant defensive line coach earlier this offseason, but Jacksonville has apparently let him out his contract in order to pursue a better opportunity. The 47-year-old Merritt worked under new Kansas City defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo in New York, working as the Giants’ defensive backs coach alongside Spags from 2007-08. The Chiefs haven’t announced whether incumbent secondary coaches Emmitt Thomas and Al Harris will be retained.

Yeah, I was just messing around.

Mark Stoops of the Football Stoops' took over as HC a few years ago, went through a few losing seasons and they've now been to a bowl game 3 years in a row.

They went 10-3 this past season, playing in the SEC East, and had one of the best defenses in college football.

I say that as someone who looks at college football objectively, as I don’t have a team that I ‘die hard’ for.

It’s just a corrupt system. The big dogs run it all, other programs can have nice seasons but it’s pretty much the same 5-6 teams always in contention to win the title. And really less than that now that Bama and Clemson just slaughter everyone.

I’d say just be glad that their basketball program is one of the juggernauts.

Bump up the offered contract for that amount the next 2 seasons and let’s develop these linebackers into killers that know how to help shut down the spread.

Can’t he just resign? **** Kentucky. Never gonna be a top dog program, no matter how hard they try.

Thats what Im thinking. He should just resign. Unless there is some sort of bullshit collegiate rule that doesn’t allow him to, then I could understand.

Personally I wouldn’t want to work for somebody I don’t trust especially if they took away an opportunity from me to better myself. I could only imagine how the guy feels.

Ha! So this podunk basketball school thinks they're going to block the Chiefs from getting what they AND the coach in question wants?

This is where being the big, dirty, shady NFL comes in real handy. We're going to titty-twist that little college program until they scream like Justin Beiber being raped by a dolphin.

And besides, anyone named "Stoops" needs to be ball-gagged and stuffed in to a refrigerator.

So where does the latest status on House sit? He used us for a raise and wants to stay fat happy paid in Kentucky? Or they really are holding him hostage? Tough to distill from the thread since there are still mostly positive emotions about him. Hard to imagine his salary in KC would be any less so what gives?

I would lean more towards the first as this whole story and progression just doesn’t make sense.

Chiefs came in and offered a job. He was interested. Kentucky came back and said ‘what if we give you a nice fat raise?’ Talked it over with his family. Maybe they like it there and decided they wanna stay there for now? It’s not like he’s not gonna get another NFL opportunity again. Maybe he waits for a DC position to be offered with an NFL team. He seems to want to go back to the NFL.

not going get upset over a fucking LB coach.

The LB coaching job was just to get him in the door and get him experience in the NFL with one of the best coaching staffs in the league. This guy has the potential to be a really good coordinator and would be an obvious next man up if and when Spags decides to move on.

And that's why we're going to buttfuck Kentucky dry and teach their little football program what time it is.

EDIT: He's been in the NFL with Spags at STL, but not as a Chief. And that's really all that matters.

Matt House was supposed to be the next linebackers coach for the Chiefs. He won’t be.

The University of Kentucky confirmed Saturday that House will remain defensive coordinator at the school. The Wildcats had the nation’s sixth best scoring defense last season, and Josh Allen is projected as a high first-round choice in the 2019 draft.

Terez Paylor of Yahoo Sports reports that Kentucky had a change of heart after agreeing to a negotiated buyout and decided not to let House of his contract. Paylor added that House wanted to join the Chiefs.

House was on the Rams’ staff all three seasons that new Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was the head coach in St. Louis.

The Chiefs will renew the search for a replacement for outside linebackers coach Mike Smith, who left to join the Packers in January. Inside linebackers coach Mark Deleone also departed, joining the Bears in the same capacity.
