Does it sound to anyone else like Kurt may be out of here? Gunther is obviously not happy with the defensive play all year long.

Are there any head coaches out there that act as HC and DC?? I think I have heard of HC/OC combos, but not HC/DC.

If we have to keep Gun as HC why not have him as DC as well. Of course, that makes the acquisition of an excellent OC a definite necessity.

Any thoughts?

I have been suggesting the same thing for 2 years now. Think that Al Saunders will come back???

I have to admit I don't know a lot about Saunders, but based on the opinions of the majority on this board, that would be okay.

What's the line on Saunders?

If we're going to be stuck with Peterson, then we're stuck with Gun. IMHO, Gun's best move would be to act as HC/DC - turning offensive reins over to whomever we bring in to replace the current stooge(Raye). Perhaps we can bring in Al Saunders; perhaps Bruce Coslett - but, whoever it is, he HAS to be a solid OC that can do the job w/o direction from anyone else!!!!! He MUST be 'the man' on O. (Same goes for whoever we bring in to replace Stock!)

IMO, Saunders won't return unless Carl is gone. Bad blood from two years ago.

I've been wondering all year why Gun hasn't taken over the defense. I know he liked to be in the box so he could see the field better, but I don't think that's such a big deal. Although I've never known any head coach that has handled both duties. They might call for a blitz every now and then, but since defensive game-plans can (and should) change during the game, it's sometimes easier to have someone else do it. Offense is a little different (and less complicated, IMO) as far as adjustments go.

I just think he's overwhelmed with all that a head coach has to do. Asking him to call defensive plays would add so much work that his press conferences would be even more difficult to understand. "Well, even though we gave up 56 points, I think we can build on it because I talked with myself about our defensive game plan and felt so proud that I actually remebered a time when Marty and this kid named Phil were walking on the plaza and saw this guy standing there and ..." (this would continue for about another four hours or so, until someone realized Gun was actually asleep and operating automatically due to all of the caffeine and Skoal spit.)

Face it fellas, they all need to go.
