From KCChiefs.com:

"Q: There's been talk about problems on the offense, but how do you feel about your defense which is ranked low in the NFL ?

CUNNINGHAM: "I think the defense is 28th in the league because we intercepted some passes and we have to get back out there on the field and play defense (again.)"

Can somebody translate this for me?

Apparently INT's returned for TD's are bad because the Defense has to turn around and go back out on the field...You see--More time on the field tires them out and they're exhausted by the 4th Qtr.

So, Donnie, stop intercepting those passes!
Chester, Marvcus, don't fall on that fumble!!

Uhh, But Gun, weren't we ALREADY on defense when we intercepted the pass?

Folks comments like this are more and more making me think that we have either:

a) a raving lunatic, or;
b) a complete moron

as our head coach. Maybe it's sleep deprivation, I don't know. I think for the good of this team Carl Peterson needs to tell Gun to go take a day and gather himself, get some sleep, etc.

I agree with gh4chiefs here, it's exactly this kind of 'thinking' that has me worried. It's no wonder that our team looks completely pathetic on the field when the 'mind' behind the team is this chaotic.

Did you here the Q&A or was it just written? Maybe it was a typo or something? Not to defend him. If those are his exact words, I have one word for him....PSYCHO

Here's the Q&A from kcchiefs website (http://www.kcchiefs.com/latest/mainnews.asp?storyID=1680&cat=4&showLatest=yes)

Pretty much word for word...

Q: There's been talk about problems on the offense, but how do you feel about your defense which is ranked low in the NFL ?

CUNNINGHAM: "I think the defense is 28th in the league because we intercepted some passes and we have to get back out there on the field and play defense (again.) And, we played an overtime game. I'm a very realistic man when I talk about defense. I think our defense has come along just fine. Matter of fact, I think they played really well last week (vs. Tennessee)."<P>

I just saw it written 47. So it could be out of context or something. And to be fair, there was more to the answer, but the rest of it seemed to even make less sense. You can check out the whole quote by going to www.kcchiefs.com (http://www.kcchiefs.com) and checking out the conversation with Gun on 9/13.

Gentlemen, our players are not this bad. They should have been competing for the AFC West Title this year.

However, the confusion from the HC is witnessed in the players play. We are only hearing what is said in front of a reporter or microphone. Does it scare anyone what might be getting said/directed to the players when the media is not around?

That scares the hell out of me!

Maybe Gun needs to take some time off for a course on "English as a Second Language". Although I have known Germans FROM Germany who speak better english than he does.

We were all spoiled by Marty's command of the english language and his public speaking prowess, but what we have now is pathetic. What if he came up on some rookie and saud the same ? No wonder the players are on a different page.

I was soo happy when he was named head coast, but now I wish we find someone like Bill Cowher.

I had high hopes for this season, but after hearing all the gafaws in the media...

I mean, Elvis changing plays on his own???
It has to be bad.

Q: Gun, how do you plan on scoring this Sunday?

A: I don't plan on scoring ever on Sundays. My wife is home and I'm on this gosh darn field trying to stay awake!

KC should be use to idotic interviews...afterall we had Bo Jackson before he could talk.... http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/tongue.gif

I've been noticing a lot of strange comments coming out of Gun's mouth lately...I think sometimes he doesn't think before he talks so He doesn't realize how stupid it sounds...and somtimes his emotions get in the way...and I think too he needs some sleep...and some help...imagine trying to be every coach on the team...the only coach we have is Shaw...So Gun and Shaw have to run the whole show...that's scary.... http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/eek.gif

Thats a scary thought, Shaw and him our only coaches. Who brought the soft zone? If we get rid of Guns and hire Shaw, I am never watching this team again.

Nothing surprises me anymore because I've figured it out - Gun is really Mr. Magoo!

I found this quote from Joe Thiesman that I'm going to use in my signature from now on...it explains everything about football... http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I guess Marty would have said something like "Frankly, we're still looking for a winning performance out of our offense and defense."

More seriously - It was long been axiomatic that "quick strike" offenses [a la the Bills in the early 90's, or Run'n'Shoot teams] leave the defense with no refractory period. Defensive stop - 2-3 plays on O lead to TD, D back on the field, repeat. An Int for a TD is the logical extension of this line of thinking.

What if every series in a game were the opponent marching down the field, then the D Int'ing at the goal and returning it for a TD. No offensive numbers [they wouldn't get on the field]. BIG yardage given up. Score -- 80 million to 0.

The statement may have flaws, or may not be applicable to our situation this year [D.Edwards' Int came early in their offensive series, before many yards were given up]. But its not PSYCHO.

Right !

Gunther provides much fodder for the media & fanatic fans everytime he opens his mouth. Maybe he will learn to keep his words to a minimum before he gets the ax.

Gunther is sounding more and more like Steinbrenner on "Seinfeld".
