L. Johnson in no rush to get new deal done
It looked like he was becoming a corporate-whore, shaving logo's into his hair, representing his friends companys with his touchdown poses. But, he's back in my good books. I'm sure he's happy to hear that from me!
Chiefs | L. Johnson in no rush to get new deal done Fri, 2 Feb 2007 07:53:16 -0800 Randy Covitz, of the Kansas City Star, reports the Kansas City Chiefs have had discussions with RB Larry Johnson regarding a new contract, although the talks are at a preliminary stage. Johnson, who has three more years left on his original contract and is scheduled to earn $850,000 in 2007, says he is in no rush to get a new deal done. "It's out of my hands," Johnson said. "It's the same thing as going in with the deal when I was a rookie. It doesn't bother me. I'm fine. It's more about trying to win the Super Bowl. I'm not trying to win 'Richest Man Alive.' " |
Good stuff. Glad to see he hung onto some of the old PSU respectfulness.

Glad to see this is a repost.

Wow, this is some good news.

I hope we just let his contract run out, and don't resign him. He's going to be one beat up motherf***** after Herm is done with him. The running back is one of the most easy position to replace in all of the NFL. Trade him, or let his contract expire. Don't pay him anymore. He's going to be Eddie Georged at 30-31 when his contract expires anyway. If he holds out he holds out, DO NOT PAY HIM. I repeat, do not pay him.

Sounds like winning a Super Bowl is important to him. There are certainly better places to do that than with the Chiefs.
Don't blame him one bit. |
i agree with Bwillie. Hold him to his current deal, then if he's a key part of the puzzle when that runs out franchise him for a year or two then let him go. That signing bonus is gonna be 20 mill the chiefs can be putting elsewhere.

Totally disagree with this statement. There are only 4 or 5 top RB's in the league. After that the drop off is significant. And if you don't have a good feature back you end up with the ole RBBC and no thanks to that. I think we should give him a new contract. But only after we resign Allen. |

He's probably the one who won the 250 million dollar powerball here in Missouri a week or so ago...

Yeah and Denver still doesn't like thier RB situation. Denver's success running the football is "scheme" cut-block related. Not in the talent at the RB position. The reason they traded was the fact that they couldn't pull a CB out of thier asses for nothing. Not to mention they knew Portis was somewhat overated. Yeah Maroney looked pretty good running the ball but when you throw the ball 50 times a game it is pretty easy to get a few good running plays in there. And Dillon was the one in there when they were going for the tough yards not Maroney. Jones-Drew looked pretty good out there in Jacksonville. He is a nice change of pace to Fred Taylor. Cadillac Williams, Kevin Jones, Ronnie Brown as well as several other RB's have had A fair season for thier teams. But have not been able to continue to accomplish the same success. LJ has done this while also running behind a Oline that is absolutely horrible not to mention that defenses knew exactly where the ball was going on every play. And the Titans nor the Falcons have had a true replacement for either one and have not been nearly as good since they left. To me we redo his contract soon so that we can get the most out of the money we will be spending on LJ. If we wait and sign him later the cost of his contract increases as the salary cap and other contracts increase. Making it cost us more later and as far as a couple of years at the Franchise tag level a few years from now we could probably sign him to a nice contract now that would cost us close to the same in signing bonus money than the tags combined would cost. Not to mention if you put him off he might become a cancer to the team. |
Eh, LJ is all talk. He wants to be in NY.
