How bout them Hawkeyes!

That Defense is stellar!

Can't wait to be at Kinnick for the Iowa/Michigan game in a couple of weeks.

I'm impressed

Hoover 09-26-2009 10:31 PM

The problem with the Hawks is that the play to the level of their competition.

That said, their defense is something special this year.

They have a tough schedule with games @ Michigan State, @ Wisconsin, and @ Ohio State, but when you play defense like that, any thing is possible.

DJay23 09-26-2009 10:31 PM

As of a week ago I was going to this game, but we decided after incurring several unexpected major costs to not go. Good thing with PSU losing and the rain.

Iowa played really well tonight. Forced turnovers, controlled the ball on the ground, forced Clark into bad throws and shut down PSU's running game. Very impressive victory, the kind of football I love.

TRR 09-26-2009 10:34 PM

Great win!

That said, Stanzi has to improve to make this a special season.

Isn't that pretty much every team in the conference? It's the Big Herm Conference.

Hoover 09-26-2009 10:41 PM

Agree TRR. I'm pretty confident that Iowa will play in a January Bowl game, but if they want to move to the next level Stanzi is going to have to play better and find a way to play well for an entire game, not just the 2nd half.

ahahahahahha

Couldn't agree more.

They should beat Michigan, they're a recruiting class or two away.

htismaqe 09-26-2009 11:24 PM

Yo, check it.

Dude, the way they're playing defense right now, I'm not sure Stanzi needs to do anything differently.

It will be an interesting game. Iowa is going to have LB's matched up with Michigan's WR's all game.

keg in kc 09-26-2009 11:28 PM

Michigan's defense is horrible, they're capable of giving up shittons of yards and points to anybody.

big nasty kcnut 09-26-2009 11:40 PM

Btw kansas and kansas state both won so far so good.

On the flip side, I don't think there's any team in the Big 10 that can score more than 20 on the Hawks.

They've finally got the running game going. The line is coming together even without future 1st-round pick Brian Bulaga. The guy playing LT in his place is a FRESHMAN and he looked like a man amongst boys out there tonight. And the two RB's they have are both freshmen too.

Hoover 09-26-2009 11:46 PM

What to they do with Bulaga when he comes back?

Seriously, I've never seen a team with so much depth at that position.

blaise 09-26-2009 11:54 PM

How bout the Houston Cougars too? A couple of nice wins.

aturnis 09-27-2009 02:05 AM

I wonder what the team would do with Jewel Hampton back there! Too bad the Hawkeyes can't ever seem to get a decent QB. This defense is stellar. Sash is a beast, I pretty much adopted him last year and before this game, he was second in the nation with INT's. Go Hawk's!

Smed1065 09-27-2009 02:07 AM

ZZ like most homers........Suck it this week. If not PM me.. LOL

Hampton won't be back until next year and then it will be an open competition again. It's a nice problem to have.

And Stanzi is a decent QB, he's having problems keeping his energy level in check. He gets WAY too amped up going into games.

Not sure. Maybe Reiff moves to RT and Richardson goes back to the bench?

What happened to Calloway? He is one of the top ranked Senior OT's in the nation according to the draft rankings, and was playing the RT spot earlier in the season anyway against Iowa State. I thought he looke pretty good in that game, and was someone I thought the Chiefs should look at in the 3rd round or so to fill that spot.

I didn't get to see last nights game either. So was Calloway out too?

No, Calloway played. Reiff is just playing better right now. Calloway also had to sit out the UNI game because he got in trouble, so he might just be a game behind in terms of rhythm.

So no to Calloway as a future Chief? I just saw the one game against Iowa State, and he looked great in the run game, and not bad in the pass block.

Hard to say man, they're just stacked at OL right now, so picking any one guy out is tough.

I just saw Calloway once. And I am by no means an OT guru. But I am just thinking if a college OT is running second string, we probably should pass with a draft pick.

Calloway isn't running 2nd string. He's started every game except for UNI (suspended due to DUI on a MOPED ROFL). He also started every game last year.

The problem is that Bulaga has been hurt/sick all season and his replacement at LEFT tackle is playing as good, if not better, than everybody else on the line. You can't just put him back on the bench now when Bulaga comes back.

I think I am following you, but you said something about Richardson going back to the bench under this scenario.

Richardson is playing guard right now. He was supposed to play tackle but he's kinda soft and he's never realized his 5* potential. I could see them moving one of the right tackles inside and moving Richardson to the bench.

Terrell Pryor is going to go full reerun against Iowa. He's not going to know what to do against that D but try to scramble away. But if Stanzi shits the bed again the Hawks won't get a touchdown unless the defense does it for them.

OK, I understand now. Thanks! :thumb:
