Again, manipulating the texture of the ball is not new, and is legal in the NFL.

Deflating is not.

It's really that simple.

The NFL, 10 years ago, basically said, "Hey we know QB's have a preference. Well let them break the ball in, use it during practice, and manipulate the texture, but that's as far as it goes. Anything beyond that is Illegal".

The Patriots went beyond that.
