The thing is, they already had several people in the protocol. You'd have to think they not only tested once but twice, maybe 3 times, leading up to the game, given the sequence of events.
I could totally agree with you if he had one negative test but again, given the sequence of events, I don't think he just had one test. He would have had to had multiple false negatives to get through like that.
And of course, this is all speculation on my part, FWIW.
