The only thing I can think is that he just doesn't think that Twitter is any different than his previous companies:
SpaceX: Who else are you going to work for? ULA? Boeing? Lockheed? Sure, if you want to work for a dinosaur that never seems to get anything done.
Tesla: Who else are you going to work for? GM? Ford? Toyota? Sure, if you want to work for somewhere that's literally just trying to catch up to Tesla from dragging their feet the past decade.
Twitter: Who else are you going to work for? Apple? Microsoft? Google? One of the thousands of startups out there? Uh...yeah, that seems like a pretty obvious choice.
