None of this surprises me. Add it to the list of reasons why you can not simple compare Y player to X player. You can not say, for instance, that Marino was not as good as Elway because he has less Super Bowl victories. So much of the victory formula relies on the competence of the coaching staff and team around the QB.
It is for this same reason that I reject the argument that Mahomes is a better quarterback than Allen. In my opinion, they are tied for best player in the league.
For every jaw-dropping sentence you read of that article, remember: "Josh Allen has to overcome this ineptitude, and still attempt to win." For 5 years now it has been Josh Allen vs the world. Allen wins in spite of McDermott. Meanwhile, Mahomes has been mentored by one of the greatest offensive minds in NFL history, and a man that had been to half a dozen Championship games and a Super Bowl before Mahomes hit puberty.
