None of this surprises me. Add it to the list of reasons why you can not simple compare Y player to X player. You can not say, for instance, that Marino was not as good as Elway because he has less Super Bowl victories. So much of the victory formula relies on the competence of the coaching staff and team around the QB.

It is for this same reason that I reject the argument that Mahomes is a better quarterback than Allen. In my opinion, they are tied for best player in the league.

For every jaw-dropping sentence you read of that article, remember: "Josh Allen has to overcome this ineptitude, and still attempt to win." For 5 years now it has been Josh Allen vs the world. Allen wins in spite of McDermott. Meanwhile, Mahomes has been mentored by one of the greatest offensive minds in NFL history, and a man that had been to half a dozen Championship games and a Super Bowl before Mahomes hit puberty.

This year alone, Josh Allen and the offense has left the field with a lead 3 times, and never saw the ball again. With a competent defense, the Bills would be 9-3. That's not Allen's fault. It has been that way Allen's entire career. He takes the lead and McDermott's defense loses the lead. If a QB has a head coach who has consistently lost games for him, he naturally starts to take more risks as he knows his head coach has an under .500 record in one score games. The QB needs to get a big lead to outdo the coaches undoing.

One could say "but they have a top 10 defense", but that doesn't deny the fact that the defense continues to lose in key times.

In the playoffs… i.e. “key times”… Josh Allen and the Bills offense has choked.

There is exactly ONE instance of Josh Allen playing great in the playoffs and the defense letting him down… the Chiefs Divisional Game/13 seconds game.

Otherwise Josh Allen has been mediocre/bad in your playoff losses.

Last year vs Cincy? The Bills offense was held to 10 points and Josh Allen had a 68.0 QB rating.

In 2020 vs the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game? Buffalo was non-competitive after the first quarter and their offense was held to 17 points + a TD set up for their offense at the 3 yard line from a Chiefs fumbled punt return. Josh Allen had an 80.8 QB rating.

And of course Buffalo got to Josh Allen’s only AFC Championship Game appearance that season with their defense… Allen and the Bills were held to barely 200 yards of total offense in their Divisional Round win vs Baltimore.

In 2019 Josh Allen finished with a 69.5 QB rating and completed barely 50% of his passes in a playoff loss to Houston.

Josh Allen has 20 TD's and 4 INT in the playoffs. If you take away 13 seconds, he has 16 TD's and 4 INT's in the playoffs. Cincinatti was a bad game, but it was one game. His previous 4 playoff games before Cincinatti saw 14 TD's and 3 INT's. It is my belief that if Allen had Andy Reid from the start, he would be far and away the best player in the NFL and a lock for first ballot hall-of-fame. Andy Reid had head coached in five Championship games and a Super Bowl before Mahomes was out of elementary school. That type of tutelage is a key factor.
