The 8 is rock solid. It's the same V8 that Toyota uses for all 4.7L V8 applications. Don't worry about what some call a lack of horsepower, it's still got 320 ft/lbs of torque in a range that you can actually use.
BTW it's also used in all the Lexus 4.7L V8 apps Here's what uses the 4.7: 4Runner, Tundra, Sequoia Land Cruiser, GX470and LX470 http://www.lextreme.com/ for all the info you need... |

Not to hijack your thread but: I just bought me a new truck this week. A Tundra was one model I considered as well as Ford F150 and GMC Sierra. I even looked at those Nissan Titans but I didn't want to go over 5 liters on engine size due to the gas prices and the forecast of them going higher. I ended up finding the truck that was calling my name. A 2003 F150 flareside that is bright and shiny Chiefs red. It is a 4.6 liter V8 Triton and I think it's got plenty of power. You should be alright with the 4.7 liter V8.
Chad Very satisfied customer (I'll have to post a pic of it later)

The only bad thing I've heard about the Tundra is that it rides like sh*t with a load in the bed. If you aren't using it for anything heavy duty, I think they are good trucks.
