I'm with Morgan State. 1.40+ is fairly terrible. 1.25-1.40 is in the "doesn't kill you" type range. 1.1-1.25 is very solid. 1-1.1 is very good. Less than 1.0 is just plain terrific. Cy Young type contender. Less than 0.9 is God-like. Think vintage Pedro or Randy Johnson for those kinds of numbers.

Damn. For some reason I thought that record was just for this era, when WHIP and all those other acronyms came into vogue. No, that's the ALL TIME record.


So, then....you're telling me that Russ Ortiz's 2.67 WHIP is, well, not good. Hrm. I never would have guessed it from the 13.50 ERA...
