Service engine soon? - Page 2

Alright..here is my situation. Last week my starter died, and I had it replaced.

Shortly afterwards, the "Service engine soon" light came on. I took it back to the shop, they hooked their computer up, and it gave an "EGR Malfunction" code. The mechanic checked a few wires and crap - and said everything was OK (at no charge). He cleared the code, but soon afterwards, the light came on again.

Any ideas? It's annoying, but my car does not seem to be running differently..

1. It sends lubrication to the muffler bearings.

You it would have been in the shop 2-3 year, with deductables, new tranny, CVs etc.

EGR - will effect mileage. They should be able to give you an estimate.
or go outside Dealer. to Good Jap repair guy.

Here's the way to fix it:

1. Buy a roll of electrical tape.

2. Put a piece of it over the light.

Me too, a couple times recently on my 300M.
When the Durango failed the Emissions test, the Check Engine Light was on. I replaced both O2 sensors for much less than a shop would have charged me for one of them.

Gas Cap not tight screws up the computer for setting mixture. False positive Check engine.
Happened before... A few start/stops It goes out.

O2 sensors were replaced on 01 Nissan Pathfinder
Under extended warrantee.
The Code for it was spot on.

My second oldest has a Honda Civic. A similar light came on. She called the dealer and they told her it's programmed to come on after several thousand miles so you'll take it back to the dealer to get it serviced. They told her how to reset it. I think she had to turn the key on without starting it, and then push the tripometer reset button.

I know it sounds like BS but it's the truth. And, it did make the light go off.

I forgot that they do that on Rice burners since they never break down and do not see any work in the shop. Those mechanics gotta eat too.

My friend has a Civic that the check engine light comes on for an O2 sensor. He changed it and it still comes on.

He says to me the other day it only does it when the tank is only half full or less...

This whole "sensor due to gas cap" makes me wonder...

Put a piece of duct tape over that annoying SES light.
