We should be drafting 3rd or 4th at worst

Obviously there have been soooooo many threads about this but here is how draft tiebreakers are supposed to work.

• Strength of schedule for the previous season is the first tie-breaker for teams with the same winning percentage.

• Divisional and conference records are the next step in the tie-breaking procedure.

• As a last resort, a coin toss is used to determine the order of selection for teams with the same winning percentage

Thats it, for the draft / now if it was for a playoff tiebreaker its

1. Head-to-Head
2. Division Record
3. Common Games
4. Conference Record
5. Strength of Victory
6. Strength of Schedule
7. Combined Ranking Among Conference Teams (points scored and points allowed)
8. Combined Ranking Among All Teams (points scored and points allowed)
9. Net Points (common games)
10. Net Points (all games)
11. Net Touchdowns (all games)

So if we look at Oakland compared to us here is what seems to make sense.

1) SOS = Same

2) Division record = Same both 2-4

3) Conference = Oakland 4-9 KC 3-9 ( puts us ahead of Oakland)

So we should not even have to go to a coin flip with Oakland because of a worse Conference record.

NFL.com says

Atlanta, Kansas City, and Oakland had the same strength-of-schedule in the 2007 season. Since Kansas City finished third in the AFC West Division and the Raiders fourth (the tie was broken on the basis of record in common games), the Raiders will draft ahead of the Chiefs. Atlanta and Oakland will flip a coin for the third position at the NFL Combine in February. If Atlanta wins, the Falcons will draft third, the Raiders fourth, and the Chiefs fifth. If the Raiders win the coin flip, they will draft third, and the Falcons and Chiefs will flip a coin to determine the fourth and fifth positions.

In essance its saying that if we finish third vs. fouth in the AFC west then that means we pick behind them but that dosen't make sense? No where does it say that where you finish in your division ranking wise that you would pick behind them. In fact it looks like the way they rank a team in the division is by ( points for and points against differential) but that has absolutly nothing to do with div then conf record which we are better than and how it is supposed to be done.

Anyone else see what I'm talking about on this?

They go down the list of tiebreakers that determine division standings first, same thing they do for the playoff's.

We are f'd if Atlanta wins the coin flip, because they need OL and QB help just like we do so they will probably take the player we want.

The good news is that even if they win the flip, they still only get one pick.
