Today Proves the Chargers are WAY Ahead of the Chiefs

I don't know this is really news to anyone, but the Chargers performance today against Indy (win or lose) shows they are clearly light years ahead of the Chiefs.

LT, Rivers out the second half, Gates not even close to his normal self, the penalty flags all going Indy's way and they are still giving the Indy everything they can handle. Maybe more than they can handle.

As a Chiefs fan this is very troubling. The Chiefs managment clearly focused on the bottom line and we need some bold moves. Not a good combination for a quick turn around.

If you know your history, you'll see that the Chiefs today are where the Chargers were circa 2003.

At least I hope it's 2003, because I sure as hell don't want to sit through the Chargers 1998 - 2002. I mean, only winning a maximum of 5 games for 5 out of 7 years would get us a lot of high draft picks, but I can't imagine it's much fun to endure.

In 2001, we started the season 5-2 and ended 5-11. The next year we were 8-8. Maybe thats where you guys are right now.

That's possible.

That's also the tendency in the league, sort of a yo-yo, with teams being up one year and down the next, with a couple notable exceptions.

Yeah. However, I think its a good thing that CP got some national heat this year. He HAS to be gone before you can do anything.

Another odd correlation:

Marty joined SD in 2002. They went 8-8. His second season 4-12. (Third season 12-4, division champion),

Herm in KC season 1, 9-7, season 2, 4-12.

Sometimes even a blind squirrel can find a nut.

Either way, I'm of the mind that the only way the Chiefs pull out of this in '08 or '09 is if many of the players taken in the '06 and '07 drafts are productive. If they're not, and if it is a requisite that Peterson has to be gone before recovery starts, then the Chiefs are likely looking at 2010 or 2011 before they're competitive again.

'08 will be the telling year for the remaining '06 guys, Hali, Pollard, Croyle, Stallings, Webb and Page.

Yeah but we were the best 4-12 team there ever was.

That's the martyocre effect. When he went, so did those lovely annual labels like "best team not in the playoffs" and "best team knocked out in the first round".

I mean, hell, NORV frikkin' TURNER has won 2 playoff games with those guys now...
