Car Computer Failure

Hi All,

I recently purchased a Mazda Tribute, and am actually going to pick it up this weekend. I got a call from the dealer this morning, who told me that the check engine light had popped on. They checked with the OBII scanner, and according to him, no error codes popped up, so they thought that it was an error with the computer. Thus, they swapped it out, but the new computer is showing the same problem, only it isn't displaying any error codes. Do you all have any idea what the problems may/may not be?

Thanks again for the help.

Yes, I was. Same as the '85 S-10 I had back in 2000. Rusted all to hell, but ran great with 210,000 miles. They both had the 1.9L engine.

I responded to HemiEd with 'Isuzu' because he had said Toyota and GM had worked together. Its Isuzu and GM who are partners.

Chevrolet Nova hatchbackIn 1985, the Nova name was applied to a rebadged fifth-generation (AE82) Toyota Corolla. The sedan used the bodyshell of the Japanese-market only Toyota Sprinter line, while a 5-door hatchback was more similar to its'US-spec Toyota-badged counterpart. It was positioned as a replacement for the Citation and was produced at the NUMMI plant in Fremont, California, as an historic first joint venture between General Motors and Toyota. 1988 was the last year for the Nova nameplate on any platform; its replacement arrived in Geo-Chevrolet showrooms as the Geo Prizm the following year.

I didn't know this. I was wondering who actually made that Nova. WTF was GM thinking back then?

We used to laugh at it and call it the Toylet. I think GM, along with all the manufacturers were scrambling to win back customers after the horrible quality and gas guzzlers they put out to the public in the 70s.

They all (big three)had to deal with their long time to market for a new model/platform. It took several years, so the easiest and quickest solution was to form an alliance and rebadge another product.

Ironically, at least in Chryslers case IMO, the Mitsubishi's were a bigger piece of shit than their own cars.

Oh my, those were dandys. Several of those made it to the drag strip, even in Pro Stock with Chrysler Hemis in them, along with the Plymouth Arrow.

I had a Dodge D50 and the worst one of all was our Chrysler Conquest. The Conquest owned me the last couple of years. The day I traded that Conquest in on a new LeBaron convertible was one of the best days of my life.

I hadn't noticed that, but I agree. They are very similar, nearly identical.

Sounds like a really good deal. I was actually considering buying one of those. Test drove a couple of Escapes and Tributes. Ended up buying a Hyundai Sante Fe, though.

Nearly identical because they are the same vehicle. They are built on the same line. It was a joint venture between Toyota and GM. Similar to some of the Mazda/Ford vehicles.
