What is a draft expert?

What is a draft expert?

From what I can tell it is hard to say. They are anything from a sports writer to a geek living in his parents basement running his command center or a ex-jock who had a Al Bundy type high school football career, while others appear to be your basic fan who is well known on a football message board.

Every year in the months leading up to the draft we are force feed opinions on who the next great this or that is going to be. By the time the draft rolls around we all have a pretty good idea who the must draft players are. So we settle in and watch it all unfold. The team we pull for make their picks and we feverishly search for the "expert" who thinks our team did well and roll our eyes at the ones who think different.

Being a draft expert reminds me a lot of being a weatherman because being wrong (almost all of the time) is not held against you. The draft grades I find very amusing as I am certain but entirely too lazy to see if the patriots got high grades for drafting Brady in the 6th round that year or the 49ers received a top grade for drafting Montana in the 3rd.

I am far from a expert but do know from years of watching the NFL a grade on a draft will not be known for a few years. I must fess up I have to google most of the names once they get past the first twenty or so players. Now I pull for a team that has a modern day Howard Hughes as a owner so head scratching over picks is nothing new to me.

I do remember a few years back all the "experts" patting Davis on the back for drafting sure fire no brainer Robert Gallery and have watched he master the "look out block" you know the block where he is on his ass yelling LOOK OUT! to the QB. I could type page after page of flop top picks and super star unnoticed by the "experts" players.

I would compile that information for everyone to show my "expert" prowess however I must spent some time on google to find out who the hell they are talking about at this point in the draft and also find the "expert" that is giving the Raiders a good grade so far because the rest of them are full of shit!

I understand that and feel the same way. I just find it funny how serious fans take these people and how serious the experts take themselves
