Broncos sign Colquitt, a Marine and others

Nose tackle Baker played at Penn St.

The Broncos added a rookie nose tackle after all.

The team signed 15 undrafted college free agents Monday, including 6-foot-2, 326-pound Chris Baker, who played nose tackle and defensive end at Hampton University.

The Broncos had considered drafting Baker on Sunday.

Off-field issues likely caused Baker, who was projected as a second- day draft pick, to go undrafted.

Baker played two seasons at Penn State but was dismissed from the team in July 2008 after pleading guilty to misdemeanor assault and criminal trespassing charges after fights. Baker had 8 1/2 sacks last season at Hampton and should have a good chance to make the Broncos' roster because the team has no clear starter and little depth at nose tackle.

The rest of the team's college free-agent haul includes defensive ends Rulon Davis from Cal and Everette Pedescleaux from Northern Iowa and linebacker Lee Robinson from Alcorn State to help bolster the team's front seven. The team used only one of its 10 draft picks (No. 18 overall pick Robert Ayers) to help the front seven.

Davis, 25, served in the Marines for three years out of high school — and did a six-month tour in Iraq.

The rest of the signees: running back Kestahn Moore (Florida); wide receivers David Grimes (Notre Dame), Travis Shelton (Temple), Lucas Taylor (Tennessee) and Nate Swift (Nebraska); offensive tackles Stanley Bryant (East Carolina) and Marcus Gordon (Kentucky State); tight end Marquez Branson (Central Arkansas); cornerbacks D.J. Johnson (Jackson State) and Tony Carter (Florida State); and punter Britton Colquitt (Tennessee).

Colquitt's brother, Dustin, punts for the Kansas City Chiefs.
