Dang reading this thread makes me miss having a good knife. I then went to the bladeforums and now I want one of everything. I havent had a good knife since I was a teenager, I need to remedy that.
I love that Falkniven A2, going to find one of those just to have when the zombie apocalypse hits. My son saw the knives I was looking at and asked when he could have one. He is only 8 and my first reaction was to tell him he had to be a lot older but thinking back on it I had my first pocket knife around the 2nd grade, my grandfather gave it to me. I remember my dad teaching me how to play mumbley-peg for the first time. So at what age, if you have kids, did you give them their first pocketknife, and what starter do you recommend. |

I carry the Kershaw Scallion. It's a great pocket knife. Fast assisted open, razor sharp, and good size.
It's not what I would choose for heavy duty stuff, but it's an excellent "every man" pocket knife.

Fallkniven has most excellent steel - that's why they're so dang expensive. This Fallkniven H1 in ironwood burl costs about $300...
![]() So I bought a used one for $70, took off the rubberized handle & re-shaped it in whalebone with a mammoth tusk guard .... ![]() |

Is there a little spacer there between the handle and thumb guard?

OK... you found my mistake. The whalebone didn't mate up with the mammoth tusk once I secured it up. So I had to fill that gap with epoxy. I shudda showed the good side....

The cool thing about shaping your own handle is that you can make it fit your hand perfectly. You might grip it & not like the feel of it at all, but it fits me just right.

I lost my Kershaw Leek a month or so ago and replaced it with a Gerber on sale. It's a good knife. The steel is pretty solid. But I miss having a good knife.

Yep. If you enjoyed that - and it sounds like you did - here's where some of my knife-collector buddies buy their scowegian and finn blades, brightwork and handle materials.
https://www.brisa.fi/portal/index.ph...tpage&Itemid=1 and this is another place we buy knives, and knife making materials. Fellow that runs this place is a really good guy: http://www.ragweedforge.com/kniv.html There may be hope for you yet.

More than a year of daily use, and this knife is solid. Look at these if you use your knife and don't just like show people your pretty sheath.

I wasn't intending on picking out a mistake. I thought you had a spacer in there that the light was shining off at an odd angle. I wouldn't worry about it. That's a damn fine blade, and I'd be mighty proud of it.
