Ha, no. I get that a lot though. I'm an engineer so I don't really do any of the actual mining. I also work at an open pit operation so it's a far cry from what most people envision when they think of mining. We've got 200-ton capacity haul trucks and hydraulic excavators with 42-yard buckets, not exactly like the county gravel pit down the road. It's a lot of fun, but the hours are long.

Detasseler:

Elections Coordinator:
Pros: Pays well. Inbetween elections I have a lot of down time. This is good if I want to take trips or just take a day or two off. The actual work isn't that hard and most of it is pretty interesting. During normal times I work M-F/8-5. Cons: The Voters. Voters are the whiniest, bitchiest ****ing people I've ever worked for. There are a couple of employees that I can't stand. One of those people....is who I'm in charge of. Election day hours suck. 6 am until roughly 2 am the next day. |

This is easy. My pros and cons are one and the same: other people.

Operations Excellence is my title but it just means efficiency and quality.
Pros- As long as there are manufacturing or transactional processes I will have opportunity for employment I have professional certifications that are sought after I can actually say i make the company money Save peoples jobs at times by making the company more efficient Mentally challenging Cons- Physically sedentary most days Lots and lots of statistics Kind of boring at times Can cost peoples jobs by eliminating parts of a process. |

PRO'S - I like the people I work with, supervisors and co-workers are nice, fun to be around - Advancement will be available soon once the boomers start to retire - VERY close to home, a lot of times if its nice I'll walk to work. - good pay/benefits/job security CON's - I deal w/ people in Louisiana, which means at least 75% of them can't read, are crooks, and have no Idea what it means to be self-reliant. You saw all of the turds that came out of the wood work during Katrina? Those are the types of people I deal w/ on a daily basis. You tell them shit, and it goes into one ear and out the other. Everyone gets a ****in attorney and it just delays the process further and people don't understand that. VERY annoying. - As much as I like mgmt at my job, they sure do micro-manage a lot. At times its gets annoying. It's a call-center type job, so results/job critique are based on the #'s you generate...to a point. They also almost "demand" working overtime, even though it's considered "voluntary" it "looks bad if you don't", kinda thing. This is probably what I hate the most. |

Position: Radiologic Technologist
Pros: Great pay, satisfaction of helping people in dire need. Cons: 1) Watching people die. 2) So many people have lost or are losing their health insurance that they cannot afford to see a doctor when they need one. They often wait until it's too late, end up in the emergency room, and perish. |

Work in the Nursing Home industry. As Maintenance Supervisor.
Pros: Coma and Go as I please. No staff to be hassled about. Little to do on a day to day basis Cons: Little to do on a day to day basis Boring and makes days long Depressing around very old and debilitated people Pay stinks, but cheap to live here on one of the states biggest lakes, so good fishing, boating ect.

I'm a Software Developer for a large law firm in KC.
Pros: Great co-workers. Great benefits. Chances to work with all kinds of new technology. We pretty much get to take whatever training we want if it will help in our jobs. Vendors man, vendors. Gotta love free Royals tickets and free rounds of golf. Cons: The downtown commute from the suburbs. Needy and demanding users. So many separate projects, sometimes it's easy to get bogged down. |
