Ayers fined for Jamaal Charles body slam

A reader asked us last night to obtain an explanation for the NFL's failure to fine Broncos defensive end Robert Ayers for his Turkey Joe Jones move on Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles in Week 17.

As it turns out, no explanation is needed; Ayers was fined.

Per NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, the league slapped Ayers with a $5,000 sanction for unnecessary roughness.

The hit can be seen at roughly 1:15 of the NFL.com highlight package from the Chiefs' upset of the Broncos.


I dont think 5K is nearly enough. He could have broken his neck. If you get fined 30k for wearing a sombrero, it doesnt add up.

Yeah... Had that BS taken place against Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, it would have been replayed a thousand times on ESPN and talk about the cheap shot against a franchise player. Ayers got off too easy and I wish Jamaal would have elected to head back on the field after setting the team record and finish the game with the NFL record and run the score up even more.

That may be because most people know who Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are. They are actual franchise players.

Fewer people have heard of Jamaal Charles. Or, say, Jerome Harrison.
