Johnson, whose production has declined in recent years, appeared in seven games for both the Chiefs and Bengals last season, totaling 178 carries for 581 yards.

His career in Kansas City ended midway through its seventh season when the team let Johnson go as he was set to return from his second suspension in a 12-month period because of bad behavior.

The Redskins are "very much interested" in signing free agent Larry Johnson, according to NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora.

The team's brass was scheduled to pick up L.J. from the airport Thursday afternoon for a wine-and-dine session. Even with Clinton Portis cleared for football activities this week, Johnson appears to be a high priority. Though he's less of an injury risk, Johnson wouldn't offer the Redskins anything they don't already have in Portis, an aging running back with lifeless legs/RotoWorld
