So, Ricky Stanzi sucks...

Why else would Tyler Palko start for us? I loved this kid in preseason. I just don't get it. Help me understand why Stanzi can't get a chance...

One of the guys that works for me is an Iowa grad, everytime i bring up his name he cringes and tells me he sucks and will never amount to anything. I can attribute that to the fact that he hates the Chiefs and is a Giants fan, but that's his school so what gives? Do we have any other Hawkeyes here?

That would give Zorn and company a lot of material to break down on him and what they need to do to put him in a better position to succeed/improve.

There is only so much you can learn from not being in games.
That's assuming the coaching staff lets him take the reins next year after he makes all those rookie mistakes. I'm not sure that would happen.

Fair enough, I agree with the idea of playing him sometime this year, but I'm not sure I'd throw him right in. When you have a bad team, I am a believer in bringing the rookie QB along a bit slower than just tossing him out there, unless he is a first rounder like Newton. We don't have good pass protection, which will be a bigger issue with a guy who the game has not slowed down for yet, and who will be seeing game planned NFL defenses for the first time. We also don't have a great defense or an elite running game to hang our hat on, So I think if you throw him out there, you just end up with what happened to Clausen last year.

But before the end of the year, I would like to see him get a few starts, and maybe sooner if it becomes painfully evident that Palko doesn't add anything to the mix...

Since he's a lefty, I'd like to see Haley/Muir/Zorn throw some bootlegs and rollouts in this game. I think it would help the line ... particularly Richardson ... a lot. Also, I'd be targeting the bejeesus out of Breaston.

I was actually talking about Stanzi. IIRC, he is right handed... but as far as the rest of it, we are on the same page.

He might suck. He also might be a 5th round draft pick just over halfway through his first year as a professional.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I'm an Iowa grad. Anyone from there who says Stanzi stinks is butthurt from his senior year when everyone thought they would contend for the national title after winning the Orange Bowl the year before and brought back most of their talent. The problem was the team lost several games late due to a variety of issues. Stanzi was actually much better in his senior year cutting down on his interceptions and increasing his completion percentage. The DC was ill most of the year and the defense gave away several games when they could not make adjustments. This was a team which could not switch away from its base defense in nickle and dime situations. We all know linebackers cannot cover wide receivers. Ferentz also became more conservative in the fourth quarter.

I appreciate the insight, I really would like to see Stanzi start.
