PFF Grades the Chiefs, Week 16

1. OL had a decent day. Not great, but decent. Albert gave up 1 hit and 1 pressure. Richardson actually had a 1.0 in pass pro, but his run blocking sucked.

2. Jon Asamaoh had his best game of the year, by far, with a 4.4. His run blocking and pass protection were awesome, and he posted season highs in both categories. After being up and down all year, he has hit his stride in three of the last four games with positive grades. He's actually 4th ranked in pass blocking among all guards, and 16th overall.

3. Our run defense was spectacular against the Raiders. Reason #1 - Tyson Jackson, with a 1.9 in run defense and 5 stops. There's no question that he's been one of the best run stoppers among 3-4 ends this year. He's 4th in run stopping and only two players have more stops. Glenn Dorsey is 5th, BTW.

4. DJ actually had a lousy game. His worst of the year.

5. Houston and Hali both had positive grades of 1.6 and 3.7, respectively. One thing that has gone unnoticed about Hali this year is his run defense. Right now he's the best run stopper out of all the 3-4 OLB. Last year he was one of the worst. BTW, Hamas, your boy Aldon Smith is ranked 2nd overall among 3-4 OLB this year.

No official recap yet. PFF released it's Pro Bowl nods:

Inside Linebackers

Derrick Johnson (KC) and Brian Cushing (HOU)

In the wreck which is the Chiefs season, one thing stands out; the performance of Derrick Johnson. A long time ago in a season far, far away (2009 actually) a very silly coach benched the Mr. Johnson for what appeared to be the heinous crime of being the second best player on the team. Well now he’s the best; a guy who can meet fullbacks head on or tracks speedy halfbacks to the sideline and the aforementioned coach is out of a job. What goes around comes around I guess, which is a tenuous segue into the defensive rookie of the year in 2009, who tanked in 2010 and has come back better than ever this year. Like Johnson, Cushing excels in all parts of the game including coverage and pass rushing.

Their coverage ratings are pretty close. Carr's run defense is not as good.
