Mock (3/5/13)
Assumptions:
1. The Chiefs let Dorsey walk. 2. Cassel is cut. Tyson Jackson stays on board, at reduced salary. 3. The Chiefs land CB Sean Smith. 4. They get one compensatory pick, an extra third (Carr). 5. The Chiefs try furiously to trade down, but there are no takers. On with the show: 1. DE Sharrif Floyd, Florida The wise pick, as I've explained, would be Geno Smith, as he could have the best long-term impact and a generational effect on the franchise. But alas, even in the swelling emotions of yesterday, it's still relatively clear the Chiefs aren't interested in him. If they are, they have put up a pretty good smokescreen -- not unheardof for Andy Reid. So I'm going with what is now the most logical pick, and the one that will make SNR tear his hair out: a high energy, high motor defensive lineman who specializes in attacking the line of scrimmage. wwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee 3. QB Zac Dysert, Miami (OH) Reaches abound this year for QBs. Every year it seems to get worse, but this year it seems especially terrible. Smith, Barkley, and Glennon went in the first. Wilson, Bray, Nassib and Manuel went in the 2nd. The Chiefs still have no backup QB, and no QB they can conceivably groom, so they take the remaining guy with the best remaining skillset in Dysert, a good-sized but raw quarterbacking prospect that the Chiefs will simply have to settle for. 3. RB Knile Davis, Arkansas If there is a silver lining to all the insane QB reaching, it's that essentially half-a-round's worth of talent falls half a round farther than it should have. Davis has given few people reason to get excited on the field at Arkansas, but his measurables are disgustingly sick and should get him drafted in the third. 4. WR Da'Rick Rogers, Tennessee Tech Rogers is two things: a severe red-flag character concern (he was kicked off Tennessee's team with a drug bust), and a borderline first-round talent. Andy Reid has consistently said he cares more about work ethic than he does about character. If he sees what he likes in Rogers, this team has a solid #3 option on the outside. 5. ILB Manti Te'o, Notre Dame Te'o is decent value here in the 5th round if you're looking for a two-down 'backer. I think Te'o is ultimately a backup quality guy but you're not losing a ton by putting him out there for obvious run downs. I know the knock on him is that he got dominated by Alabama, but he is a talented tackle machine with a good nose for the ball. 6. OLB Quanterus Smith, Western Kentucky Smith is a gifted sack machine with an ACL history. That ACL alone will scare off a lot of teams but the Chief welcome Smith and his 12.5 sacks as high-upside depth. 7. OG Garrett Gilkey, Chadron State Teams usually like to take obscure small schoolers in the 7th. Might as well take a shot on one here. |

They'll be in a world of hurt if Alex Smith gets injured. Maybe they should try to sign AJ Feeley for a year. They'll still be in a world of hurt if he has to play, but maybe not as severe. And he could be a benefit to the team in training camp and as a mentor to Dysert since he's played in Andy Reid's system before.
Edit: Oops, I didn't realize he was completely out of football last year. Maybe it's not such a marginally good idea.

Waiting for the 3a pick to draft a QB is just a disaster waiting to happen. This team will need either a FA castoff, or find a way to get a QB in the first two rounds. I'd suggest, of course, Geno Smith at 1.1. |

Teo wont last until the 5th. Realistically, hes a 2nd or 3rd rounder, but someone will probably fall in love with him.

5. Ty Powell, ILB, Harding; bigger, faster, stronger and more athletic than Teo. Looked good in LB drills at combine. Could be 3 down LB.
6. Earl Wolff, Safety, N.C. State; good size, speed and athletic ability. First team all ACC in 2012 and had 391 career tackles. |

Chicago is a ND town, and he is all we hear about. If he makes it to the Bears second, the Bears fans will march on Soldier field if he is not picked.
