Trying to guesstimate cost on fixing 2001 f150

I have a 2001 f150 with 180k miles that has a head that had to get a sleeve put in it for the spark plug years back. That sleeve is now loose and the shop said it probably won't be able to be repaired when, not if, it comes loose again.

They said if that happens it will take replacing the head to keep it running, and I was trying to figure out if that would be a cost effective option, or if I should just trade the thing in while I could.

The head is the passenger side head on the #3 cylinder, if that matters in the situation.

It's probably going to cost a lot.

Fun fact: Estimate means to make an educated guess at something. Therefore, "guesstimate" is redundant.

Unless you are making an estimate while a guest at an event.

And you can pull the heads our even get that motor out without any body disassembly.

I've done many. I'm sure its not the way the book says to do it but I can get it out of there. You just have to figure out how to male the balancer point straight up

When I bought the just the tools needed they were over 500 bucks.

But that was when they first came out, surely they are cheaper now.

That job sucks though IMO. its definitely not my favorite, and that's coming from a guy who does tons of head gaskets...

On this one with those miles I would try to screw the plug out and hope

The insert comes with it. Then get a new plug and SOLID STEEL insert. Screw the plug into the insert and coat the outside with jb weld. Then screw it all back in tight. Wait a couple minutes and take the plug out. The next morning reinstall plug and hope its fixed.

I've fixed a ton of them that other shops ****ed up previously.

If the insert comes back out with the plug you have to start over though.

Pm me tomorrow if interested in the kit I use for the inserts. Best one I've find but its at the shop.

Thanks for the feedback.

There is a shop from back home that I've used a lot in the past that said about $1500 for it to be done. I'll probably mull it over this weekend and decide, but my wife is requesting that I go the trade in and get a car route.
