Pest Mock - 02/07

Mainly just a variant of yesterday's mock.

1. The Chiefs extend Alex Smith 5 years, $72m ($36m guaranteed) and S Eric Berry 6 years, $38m ($18m guaranteed).

2. The Chiefs restructure WR Dwayne Bowe and Tamba Hali's contracts.

4. The Chiefs sign OG Geoff Schwartz to a 3 year, $6m deal and S Hussain Abdullah to a 3 year, $10m deal.

5. The Chiefs place a 6th round tender on Jerrell Powe.

7. The Chiefs re-sign OLB Frank Zombo and LS Thomas Gafford to minimal deals.

8. The Chiefs let walk: WR Kyle Williams, OT Brandon Albert, OG Jon Asamoah, DE Tyson Jackson, ILB Akeem Jordan, S Kendrick Lewis.

9. The Chiefs cut: CB Dunta Robinson

10. The Chiefs sign OT Mike Johnson (Falcons) to a 1 year, $1.5m deal, DE Antonio Smith (Texans) to a 2 year, $8m deal. and Pat Angerer (Colts) to a 3 year, $10m deal ($2m guaranteed).

Draft:

1.23 - Dee Ford, OLB/DE, Auburn

Hali and Houston being injured last year should have raised a red flag when it comes to this defense. There is no depth behind them and we have no heir apparent to Hali now that he's showing signs of declining. To say Dee Ford dominated at the Senior Bowl and National Championship game was an understatement. He's got the ability to put on a little bit more weight without losing that first step. He just needs to get better at run support.

3.87 - Jared Abbrederis, WR, Wisconsin

This offense succeeds when you have WRs who can run crisp routes. Abbrederis steps in as the #2 WR in his rookie year and moves Avery to the slot (where he belongs).

4.119 - Keith McGill, CB, Utah

Smith or Flowers (or both) could be gone after this next season. I believe that Cooper has the talent and ability to be a starter on this team. McGill is brought in because he's the type of CB that Reid/Sutton are looking for. He'll get some playing time in sub-packages and hopefully show that he can be a starter.

5.151 - Chris Watt, OG, Notre Dame

With Asamoah walking in FA....we need a backup Guard to play behind Allen and Schwartz. I think Watt has the talent to become a starter in 1-2 years and could possibly take over for Allen when his contract is up.

6.177 - Isiah Lewis, SS, Michigan State

Depth behind Berry.

6.183 - Silas Redd, RB, USC

Reid apparently doesn't think that Gray is a good fit for his offense. Redd should fit a lot better.
