Hoo Boy. Child struck by foul ball during Cubs game

A small child was rushed to medical attention Wednesday night after apparently being struck by a foul ball during a Cubs-Astros game in Houston.

Play was halted during the fourth inning after the ball – off the bat of Cubs hitter Albert Almora Jr. – apparently hit a young girl, the Houston Chronicle reported.

I have no idea what kind of person Almora Jr is but man he was taking the situation rough. I had to appreciate how much he was shaken up by it.

It's an assumed risk so deal with it.
The big difference is that baseball has a specific option that would dramatically reduce that risk without impacting the game. Golf doesn't have that option. Just because someone assumes risk doesn't mean the facility can't find ways to make everything safer. Nets would completely hurt the game for golfers. Baseball players wouldn't even notice they're there.

There is zero reason not to extend netting in all stadiums at least to the dugouts and a bit past that. All the way to the foul pole may be excessive but something still needs to be done. You can yap all you want about fans needing to be ready and accepting the risk all you want but there is no reason someone should be 150ish feet from home plate and be completely exposed to a line drive with an exit velo of 100+ mph.
DUMB PARENTS!!! A ****ing 2 year old to a pro baseball game? Really?

WRONG! I WANT TO BE CLOSE TO THE ACTION AND DO NOT WANT NETTING AT THE DUGOUT. WATCHING A GAME THROUGH NETTING SUCKS BALLS!

I sat behind home plate for the Baltimore Orioles vs Texas Rangers and the netting was so distraction.

Stupid argument. Golfers have to see thousands of fans when they tee off and hit down a chute.

So you're arguing that it's for the PLAYERS now that they wouldn't notice them? You're debating the wrong side of this argument.

So if we put up the netting there is a good chance we won't have to run into you at the game?

Oh, I was thinking about getting hit by an errant golf ball on a course. Yeah, of course watching golf down the chute is dangerous and fans assume that risk. But again, the facility doesn't have much of an option to protect them without significantly altering the game for players. Baseball has that option. They choose not to do it

I can't imagine it would take long at all for people to forget they are there. Same way people barely notice them anymore at hockey games. Fans will adapt. I've talked to a few front row regulars and they said it takes some time to get used to, but overall they enjoy the game a hell of a lot more because they don't have to constantly keep their head on a swivel. And its easier to bring their family.
