Officers recall pursuing, stopping driver on drugs who went down Chiefs parade route

First, the Ford Taurus drove through a fence barricade at Berkley Riverfront Park where parade VIPs were meant to park. Behind the wheel was 42-year-old Addae Doyle.

Then he drove down Grand Boulevard, which is where police got eyes on the situation. Officers near E. 6th Street and Grand approached Doyle’s car, but he refused to stop.

“We didn’t know if it was a terrorist attack or if it was just trying to get a jump on a good seat, but we all thought that it was an evil intent and needed to be stopped,” explained JT Hand, a tactical officer with the Independence Police Department.

I guess somewhere in those chase videos is local news meteorologist Gary Lezak nearly getting pancaked. I was listening to the border patrol on 810 radio and they say you can see a guy in street in a chiefs game jersey with Lezak on back. He jump across barricade just as the car speeds by where had been. Like that barricade would have done any good. I guess he was going to call in to the show later to tell his tale. I had to get back to work so didn't hear it I have watched several videos and not seen him.

I was watching the NBC channel 41 feed live. So I saw it as it happened. While the cameras were rolling, you see him in the shot after the car rolls by, rushing out to the street to watch the action. I didn't see Lezak jumping out of the way, but he came on the air right after the car was stopped, obviously shaken. As I recall, he said he almost jumped the barricade, but the car ended up swerving down the street towards its eventual stopping point. They even had live action of the police cars doing their maneuver to stop the car. It was surreal. I'm sure that feed is out there somewhere.

All the Channel 41 video I've seen shows the car turning the corner and the cuts off right before Lezak enters the picture...

I already told you how they do it down here. Park those huge garbage trucks at entrances into where all the people are. They will bring in garbage trucks from surrounding communities if needed. A car is not getting pass those beasts.
