I think the NFL overtime is just about perfect.

1) Field goals are a pretty weak achievement and definitely should NOT end a game. Currently, they do not on the first possession and the other team gets a shot with the ball.

2) Touchdowns are far more difficult to achieve and probably should end a game. This tips the advantage toward franchise QBs, which is clearly where the league wants the advantage in any game to be.

2a) Is the argument really that a defense can't prevent touchdowns? I mean, FFS, if that's the case, perhaps all sorts of NFL rules need changed and it's not really the "fault" of overtime.

3) The team winning the overtime coin toss has a 52.8% chance of winning. If the goal is 50/50, we're pretty much there. Honestly, if that's not good enough, just have a coin toss determine the winner. THEN you'd have the 50/50 that you desire. FFS, this is stupid.

EDIT: Just saw SNR's post #9 covered this pretty well. Just leave it the **** alone and quit crying.

Doesn't that give an unfair advantage to the team with the ball second? You literally know what the other team did. If they scored a TD, you don't have to worry about punting or kicking a FG. It's 4 downs from here on out. That's a decided advantage that the first team didn't have.

I'll bet Tyreek would win this every time!

The first talk of changing the OT rule seemed prompted by the results after the kickoff spot was moved back to the 30 yard line. That made receiving the OT kickoff a bigger advantage when all you needed was a FG.

The rule has been changed a couple of times since the rule never changed for 30 years. Whenever the rule was proposed changed, there was always the “play defense” argument. It is clear that the changes from the original rule were good decisions. All this yakkety-yak arguing against change because your dick feels bigger when the Chiefs win, ignores that some neutral fans said the rule could be changed after 2018 AFC Championship and are saying it now.

I think if the rule is so perfect now, then just change the timing of the OT coin toss to right after initial coin toss.

I would not want to be the first team that loses an OT playoff game, after scoring a TD after receiving the kickoff.

Keep the rule the same, but let everybody know at the start of the game who won the OT coin toss if game ends tied. That is the very best solution and the fact that none of the stupid mother****ers on chiefs planet that do not know shit about NFL football have one thing to say about the idea proves conclusively that it is the solution.

The Chiefs actually did try to change the overtime rule in 2019, giving both teams the opportunity to have the ball regardless if the team that won the coin toss scored on its initial possession.

Here's the full proposal:

Allow both teams the opportunity to possess the ball at least one time in overtime, even if the first team to possess the ball in overtime scores a touchdown.

Eliminate overtime for preseason

Eliminate overtime coin toss so that winner of initial coin toss to begin game may choose whether to kick or receive, or which goal to defend.

The proposal was not adopted and wasn't even taken to a vote, 24 of 32 owners would have to vote "yes" for an overtime rule to be changed.
