Boye Mafe

Seems like every mock gives us this dude. I never see him go higher.

So if he's there, well?

Who would you take him over, and who would you take over him?

He’s my top EDGE after the top guys (Hutch, Thib, Walker, Johnson, and Karlaftis).

At ER, I have him behind Hutchinson, Thibodeaux, Walker, Johnson, Karlaftis, and Ebiketie. I'd take him over any other edge not listed in those 6.

I really liked what I saw of him with Senior Bowl practice videos and game. I think his draft value has grown to a point he may be overvalued into the 1st round. If you watch some Minnesota football games, you see that often times good OTs can control him. The sacks were usually coverage sacks. His playing stats have not been that dominant.

2018 - 6 games, 12 tackles, .5 sack
2019 - 7 games, 14 tackles, 3 sacks
2020 - 6 games, 27 tackles, 4.5 sacks
2021 - 12 games, 34 tackles, 7 sacks

Mafe has excellent physical qualities. He can develop into a good NFL DE, but I would prefer him at 50, but know he will be gone by then because of probable draft value.

I think he's a great fit on this DL. Would be a mismatch against typical RT's with some quality DL coaching.

I’m going to call bullshit. He has a 9 min highlight reel with many of his sacks, and they were not “usually” coverage sacks.

I think Mafe is very good DE and would help the Chiefs. I have an issue with his being a 1-29 value. But that is all dependent on how the draft falls.

There are some excellent videos from 2021 games that show the Minnesota defense. The 9-minute highlight video shows Mafe in his Minnesota career and he is impressive.

I like AK better than Mafe. Mafe is a pretty terrible run defender…

Idk about the run difference but I'd way rather have AK over Mafe

Yea, saying you like Ebiketie more is fine, but the idea that he’s so much better against the run is just false.

They’re both pass rush specialists early on that need to work on run defense.

I was more asking which non-edge players people would take over him, if they're on the board. It's pretty obvious where he fits among the edges, and by all accounts he's fine value there. I'm curious if people would rather him or Pickens, or him or Hill, or him or ______.

Think it's a really good question. On the one hand i think pash-rush ability projects more easily to the next level from college, on the other I think someone like Hill, Cine or Pitre could be more impactful from the get-go. I'd also say DE SHOULD be more impactful in Spags scheme, but the possible exception is with a CB/S hybrid like a Hill or Pitre that is super flexible.

Basically I wouldn't hate seeing someone like Hill picked over a Mafe, but I think it's more likely it'd just be a WR pick that gets moved down to 50. I probably wouldn't choose Pickens ahead of him.
