Mission Stats Sheet

I'm thinking about starting an Excel spreadsheet that will keep track of all of the stats for the missions. That way when someone wants to know how many times their plane has been hit or how many crew members they've lost, we have a quick reference for it. We're only 4 1/2 missions in right now, so it shouldn't be too hard to catch it up if I start now.

I was wondering what stats everyone would like to keep. It can be as detailed as you want. I have to go through every plane's mission to see who was killed and what positions are open anyway, so I can record the stats as I go.

So far I have:

Enemy Planes Hit
Enemy Planes Killed
Bombing Run %
Hits Received
Crew Members Hit
Crew Members Killed
Crew Members Captured
Crew Members Sent Home
And a running total of planes lost if plane is reincarnated

The stats will be kept per mission, but will also have a running total.

I was thinking of adding shot attempts so a hit % could be worked out. Should flak hits be kept separate from hits from a plane? What about a mission aborted column? Anything else anyone could think of that would be worth keeping track of?

This'd be cool. When you're ready to go, I can send you all the mission writeups in Word documents so you don't have to go sifting through the threads. I've been writing them up in Word as I go.

ChiefJustice started a gunner thread, though I don't think he was able to update it for the last mission or two. Gunning statistics for both individuals and total aircrews would be cool - hits, damages, and kills, as well as hit percentage. Recording individuals versus aircrews might depend on how much time you've got available, though.

I think that destination and formation position might be interesting, too. It'd let us figure out what the most dangerous missions are.

Recording flak separate from hits? It might be useful, though they're kind of calculated the same way once there's a hit.

Perhaps the total number of enemy fighters encountered and the number of enemy fighters driven away by Allied fighters?

Mission aborts might not be bad to have. I've been debating on how to track mission aborts. It'd be nice to give someone credit for something if they go out and get shot up over the Channel and abort, but I don't know if it should be a mission credit.

My initial thought was that a mission would be aborted if the plane did not cross the bombing zone. This would mean that a mission would count if you either dropped your bombs over the target or you flew the whole outbound route as planned and couldn't drop your bombs due to bombardier injury, jammed doors, etc.

However, it seems like you should get credit if you go out and engage the enemy and get shot up, and have to return to base. Even if you didn't drop your bombs, you still faced combat.

Which definition seems most reasonable?

I find it disturbing how this diversion affects those of us who like to line up numbers and then manipulate them. Earlier on, I had a little table breaking down what type of German plane was hit. I got disgusted when I tried to paste it to a post and it lost all the proper spacing, so I abandoned it. Still - it is just weird how I will spend my free time, and apparently, I am not the only weird one.

I have been going with the second thought. 0% bombing, but they might have shot down some planes, and received damage. That is still a mission.

I think I agree. A mission should be defined as any flight that has enemy contact OR a completed trip to the bombing zone.

In this game, there's only one way to have mechanical problems, and it's really rare. Aborted missions probably aren't much of an issue, then.

You might consider an Akashic-type record of those of us who were reincarnated that have gone on to participate in another doomed mission.

It may be reason to institute a three-strike-and-you're -out format.

Love the cartoon. Emailed it to several coworkers, who all replied favorably, except for one - who commented that there are 11 kinds of people, the 10 already mentioned, and the mean kind who seem to find pleasure in pointing out peoples differences.
