Marty's Toughness...I miss it

The only difference in philosphy between Herm and Marty is toughness. Marty had guys line up and just punch the other guy in the mouth, no matter what side of the ball it was on.

Particularly on defense under Marty we attacked, attacked and attacked. That meant bringing LB's, playing man.......I can still remember the 95 D lining up 10 guys on the line just daring a team to snap the ball.

Offesnivley there was never talk of having to simplify a playbook or protect guys.

You protected the ****ing ball or your ass was benched. If you weren't getting the job done, ala McIntosh you were benched.

Herm is too much of this simple offense and base cover 2, get eaten alive zone defense.

Both coaches want(ed) to control the ball with running and play solid defense.

Only Marty wasn't worried attacking the other team and making them deal with the guy in front of them.

There were no schemes or tricks or anything, just line up and punch the ****er in front of you in the teeth and let his ass know there is 59:59 more of it to come.

I think we're plenty tough. We're just not particularly talented or experienced.

And we're playing plenty of man coverage now that we have corners who can man up.

Marty kept winning and WON a playoff game after Carl.

Carl didn't.

Marty won playoff games before Carl.

That argument's over, put to bed, and in the books...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Marty had a way of making guys play. I don't think we are tough. I think we practice soft, I think we play soft. That is obvious by the lack of knocking anyone off the ball.

You line up, you knock the guy in front of you on his ass and let your RB go by.

That was Marty. Did he have better talent? Yes but not everyone on that team was a HOF'er.

Marty knew how to get guys to play their ass off and be effective. Herm doesn't have that touch.

I think Herm gets guys to play...they're just not talented enough. Adrian Jones isn't capable of knocking anyone off the ball. He doesn't have to be Will Shields. We'd settle for Dave Szott. But he's not even that talented...

If you don't think we have enough talent to hang more than one TD on the Oakland defense you're insane.

Herm is Stephen Hawking in scouting, drafting, and signing talent and a baboon eating paint chips come game day...

Exactly.

It was time to move on and move up.

Not that we did, but the need was clear...

Herm is scared to win. Marty was scrared to score a lot of points. But he didn't put 3 and out offenses on the field no matter who the QB of RB was. I don't care if it was Word, Okoye, Allen, Hill, McCNair....they produced.

Marty had the team just much more intense and hungry.

I feel like we have DV's softness trying to coach Marty Style right now.

Meanwhile this asshole in Denver grabs RB's and broken WR's and linemen who you say WTF is that? and runs all over everyone year in and out.

Samething with his defense.

Why? Cause Shannahan isn't ****ing SCARED!

When Thigpen is out there, one touchdown is about all you can expect.

If Huard had played the entire game I expected we would have scored more.

I heard the radio guys say something the other day that scared the sh*t out of me.

They said Herm is looked at by Clark as a 1st year HC rather than a guy in his 3rd year because he didnt start a true rebuild until this year.

Someone please tell me thats not true!!!!

I don't care how or with who, just do it.
