Miguel Paul, frosh guard at MU claims to be Chris Paul's first cousin. However Chris Paul says otherwise.

On the University of Missouri basketball Web site on page 44 of the current game notes, team freshman point guard Miguel Paul lists New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul as his first cousin.

However, when a senior student from the university, Michael Kelly, who is from Mandeville, came to the Hornets' practice Tuesday to do a story for an NBC-affiliate station in Columbia, Missouri, Chris said he had no idea who Miguel was.


As he was walking out of the Alario Center after practice, Chris said he had never heard or met Miguel.

Miguel, who was a top recruit from Lakeland, Fla., wears the same number as Paul. According to Miguel's bio, his father, Masha, played football at Winston-Salem State (N.C.) University, which is located in the city where Chris was born. Kelly said Miguel goes by MP3, a spinoff from Chris' CP3 nickname.

The Columbia Missourian ran a story on Nov. 16, 2008 with Miguel Paul talking about how he gets his inspiration from his cousin Chris, and details a meeting the two had after a tournament game in Raleigh, N.C.

"I'm shocked at the fact that this may not be true because Miguel said all of this stuff and you have all the comparisons at Missouri,'' Kelly said.
