I'll just start it now since he has his 3 round mock draft out already.

#3 Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State
The Chiefs invested $63 million into Matt Cassel. Whether this was a smart move or not is now irrelevant - what's done is done, and Scott Pioli is betting his Kansas City tenure on Cassel succeeding.

Unfortunately, one of Cassel's most glaring weaknesses, his tendency to take too many sacks, will be very prevalent in Kansas City because the team's offensive line is so horrendous.

In two games, Branden Albert has surrendered two sacks and has been whistled for a whopping four penalties. Pioli didn't draft Albert, and the Chiefs organization doesn't have that much money invested into him (about $3 million over the next four years). Pioli can afford to draft a franchise left tackle and move Albert around in an effort to give Cassel more time in the pocket. He needs to protect his investment - no matter how bad it may be.

I gave serious consideration to Eric Berry here.


#35 - Eric Norwood, DE/OLB, South Carolina
The smart move here would be to add a rush linebacker to help an anemic pass rush that won't be any better in 2009 than it was in 2008. Eric Norwood opened the season with two sacks against N.C. State and added another one at Georgia. He had 14.5 TFL and nine sacks in 2008.


#59 - Evan Royster, RB, Penn State
The Chiefs should be able to cut Larry Johnson following the 2009 season. Evan Royster is a talented runner who would be a nice complement to Jamaal Charles.


#67 - Marshawn Gilyard, WR/KR, Cincinnati
With Tony Gonzalez gone, Matt Cassel doesn't have much to work with outside of Dwayne Bowe. I've always liked Bobby Engram, but he's 36. Mark Bradley, Bobby Wade? Meh.

This mock has us picking cody 2nd round. I am not saying he is worth it but I don't think he makes it to 2nd round someone will pick him in the 1st.

As of November 5th...

#5 - Eric Berry, S, Tennessee

The only options here are Eric Berry and Bruce Campbell. Left tackle is a huge need because Scott Pioli must protect his $63 investment. However, there is some concern with Campbell's injury history, meaning teams drafting in the top 5-10 could shy away from him (think Eugene Monroe and his knee last year).

Eric Berry is the top-rated prospect in this class. Kansas City's secondary is a mess, and Berry is the type of playmaker they need to help stop the pass. If you click on Berry's name, you'll see that Matt McGuire has compared him to Ed Reed in his scouting report. Call me crazy, but the Chiefs could definitely use an Ed Reed on their roster.

In five games, Branden Albert has surrendered 4.5 sacks and has been whistled for four penalties. Johnson is a joke and a terrible player. He should not be on an NFL roster at this point. Evan Royster is a talented runner who would be a nice complement to Jamaal Charles.

I would be alright with this draft but would prefer Sam Young or Ricky Sapp over Royster and would like to see Golden Tate drop past STL to the Chiefs ealry second. If that happened taking Eric Norwood over Gilyard would be a great start to the draft IMO.

What do you guys think about Toby Gerhart? He's running at 235 pounds right now and might be a nice change of pace from Charles. He'd be a great red zone running back, IMO, and could probably be had with our Atlanta pick (2nd) or 3rd round pick. I guess my picks would be:

1. Eric Berry/Mays
2a. Kindle/Hughes
2b. Fox (if he's available)
3. Gerhart
