I like Bo. It really bothered me that he got hurt from that Bengals tackle from behind. I cringed when that happened.
He was fun to watch even if he was a Raider. As a Royal he was great too. That was hard to watch him go back and forth to teams. I loved the Royals and hated the Raiders but watching Bo just had to appreciate what he could do. I remember him doing an inside the park home run one time and thought that was the coolest thing ever. |

Bo Jackson was a beast. I was lucky to see some of his incredible feats in Kansas City.
Yesterday I just happened to get curious about the pole vault record and whether Sergey Bubka still has it. It turns out that no one is even close to him. That's an event that requires incredible speed, strength and agility. http://www.iaaf.org/records/toplists...or/men/senior/ That IAAF site is pretty slick. You can use it to look up the fastest 100m performances of all time. Usain Bolt has a commanding lead there, though in my opinion it is not quite as impressive a lead as Sergey Bubka has. There's only been one athlete to hold world records in the 100m, 200m and 400m: The Polish women's athlete, Irena Szewinska http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irena_Szewinska. That's pretty impressive, holding world records across that set of events. Bo Jackson, though, could hit a baseball a ton and that's one of the toughest things to do. Michael Jordan couldn't. In baseball, it wasn't just that he was an All-Star, he was a phenomenon. He did such incredible things. I remember the week leading up to his first major-league homer, which was a record setter in Royals Stadium by the way, he shot the speedy Mickey Hatcher at 3rd base with a bullet from right field. (Turns out that was the first inning of the game on September 9: http://www.backtobaseball.com/playba...mber+9%2C+1986 )I'll never forget the fan reaction. There seemed to be an audible pause in which the fans in Royals Stadium each had to ask themselves if what they just saw was real. How in the hell could a running back have an arm that good? That outfield assist is barely even mentioned when folks talk about Bo Jackson's baseball feats, because he did so many more weird things than that, including shooting Harold Reynolds at home from the warning track, running on outfield fences and hitting prodigious homers. Not to mention his accomplishments on the football field. Yeah, Bo Jackson was something else. Last edited by DanT; 03-03-2013 at 01:42 PM.. |

Some links about about Bo's major league debut.
http://www.shermanreport.com/saturda...-league-debut/ http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slu...emories_050611 Cool SI Story during the middle of his career. My younger brother happened to be at Fenway to see that catch Bo made on the Gedman line drive. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vau...74/1/index.htm Last edited by DanT; 03-03-2013 at 01:34 PM.. |
