Last Offseason - CEH was ill, lost ~47 pounds
Well, this may explain why he didn't make a big jump.
His normal weight is 207, but he got down to 160 after having gallbladder surgery that kept him from training all offseason.

Makes sense, though. Also could explain his fumbling issues he all of a sudden had for a couple games. Dude was way weaker than he normally played at. Actually looked pretty good in the playoffs so he could've been closer to what he considers prime game shape.

Each pound of lean tissue you build holds a tad over 3 pounds of water. 15lbs of muscle loss sounds about right. Guys can put that on quite easily over a 3 month period with the help of some anabolic agents.

I didn't lose a pound when they removed my gallbladder due to infection. What's his secret?

Muscle retention isn't the issue. He probably did lose some muscle during the process, but once you get back to lifting and the needed nutrition that shit bounces back quickly. I'm sure he was on a very restricted diet after the surgery and it led to depleted glycogen stores. Going from eating 4,000 calories per day when you have as much muscle as Clyde, then it being dropped down to 2,000 is a major change and his metabolic burn rate was still running as if he was eating a higher amount of protein and calories. Then getting back into the normal rhythm of things his body bounced back to his normal running capacity, but very minimal muscle was ever actually lost during the entire process of his surgery. His muscle was just...Dried up like a sunbaked sponge, to put it simply.

He clearly came into camp and the season lighter than usual. I don’t doubt that it had some impact.

Well that sucks. Maybe he can win his job back with a better offseason?
