The story is that Bernard Williams was suspended in 1994 for marijuana stuff. He never retired, never applied for reinstatement, and the Eagles never cut him, so he's technically been an active NFL player on the suspended list for the last 29 years, until the Eagles finally cut him today.

I appreciated the good journalism of the last line of the article:

Williams, 51, can now be claimed by any other team.
