I should have known better. I'm stuck on my cell phone and only looked through the first page of the Media Center for the topic.
If mods want to delete this thread and perhaps merge my OP into the original as a comment, that would be fine. I doubt I'm allowed to full on delete threads on my own, and certainly not on my pay-as-you-go cheapo phone. |

Vlad_Knucklehead is a more apt moniker for you.

I put in work on this OP just to find out it was a misfire.
I wrote down what was said in that podcast and then transcribed it here from those notes. I'm pretty good at writing down what people say in real time because at one time in my youth, I covered baseball and had to write down quotes from players and coaches to use in articles later on. This was before everyone had smart phones with voice recorder apps. |

ETA: I also have an out here. That thread was about the trailer. This thread is about the finished theatrical release, clearly deserving of its own thread! |

I saw it about 2 weeks ago with my wife and family. It was entertaining and the wife and kids were all in. Basically, it was a rehash of the first, and the ending was dumb but I was entertained.

just rewatched Maverick last weekend.
Man, I think I said some dumb things about the movie right after I watched it the first time. What a great movie. I think it might be the best movie in decades. i think I originally said something about how I thought it was just a rehash of the first movie, but really it was a next chapter, not a remake. As such, the story was pretty darned good, enabling them to bring in the right amount of nostalgia, without being just a parade of cameo appearances that most blockbuster sequels seem to revel in. Each character brought back was actually integral to telling the story. I could wax rhapsodic for hours about the visual effects, cinematography, etc., at least as much as an amateur like myself could try to, but the main point is that Maverick was a great piece of story-telling in the best old school block-buster fashion renovated perfectly for today and i loved every second of it.

I thought it was entertaining.
But, I don't think you can just fly right between 2 jets like they were doing and talking all that shit over their radio doesn't happen. But other than that, I thought it was entertaining and I'm nitpicking.

Well, no, they'd never allow that kind of maneuvering at TG. There's several things in the movie that they'd never allow at TG in reality, but who cares. Made for a great scene.
