Why are you a Chiefs fan?

Since our KC Chiefs have had a less than stellar last few years and a very ugly season this year we have all been doing alot of complaining. Well, now is the time to come clean to yourself and answer the question: Why are you here and what makes you a Chiefs fan?

Pure tribal loyalty--same as frazod. It would take a string of Monday Night Meltdowns to make me reconsider my fanaticism for my hometown team.

Because I've been one since childhood and have never understood many people's penchant for jumping ship when things aren't going well. Similarly,suddenly becoming a fan of a team that wins it all--or gets close--seems bizarre, as well.

To all chiefsplanet regulars: Sorry about my lengthy absence from this BB. The fact the Chiefs went down the drain during this period was absolutely a coincidence...my Dad has been visiting for several weeks now, and he's using my computer room as his room. I've been away, but I haven't gone away. My summary of the last few weeks: The season would have been very much alive if we had gotten past the Bills. It's quite possible that we would be 9-5 right now if we had done so. I can't make up my mind about Sunday's game. I hate to think about helping the Raider's win the division. I hope like hell that Seattle beats the Raiders on Saturday, so if we do lose to the Donkeys, it will hurt the Raiders big time. Not sure if I'll make it back here before the New Year--Happy Holidays to all!! Don't let our post-Marty hard times get you down...there's still lots of time to become "Team of the 00's""!!!

I started following the Chiefs when I was living in MO. while my Dad was in the air force. They were pretty much the only team televised on Sunday. I fell in love with the tough defense and in your face running game. Then in the 90's they were fun to watch because they were in competition almost every year. I actually got into verbal fight while in college at IUP (DJAY23 is probley the only one who heard of it) when the Chiefs were playing the Steelers on MNF then again when the Chiefs played the Eagles in Philiadelphia. I went to veterns stadium and cheered my a$$ off. I walked out of that stadium with so much beer on me it was coming out my shoes when I walked.

Anyway, thats how I became a Chiefs fan and the hardships I edure in Pennsyvania because of it.

I started following them when they were the Dallas Texans when I was in high school. I was working in a Conoco station in Overland Park one saturday, when a woman brought in a 1963 black 427 Mercury and told me her husband was given the car as the AFL's MVP!
This was Jackie Dawson, and she would bring me some type of memorabilia when she came in.
She started my on a bad habait that I have today, collecting Chiefs memorabilia. I have a huge Chiefs collection that I have collected over the past 37 years.

Very simple, I'm a Kansas Citian.

The Chiefs, as the Royals do and the A's and Kings once did, represent my home town, so naturally, I root for them first and foremost. It shouldn't be any other way.

Now, if the Chiefs should ever leave KC, I suspect I'd continue to be a fan of theirs.

And, as in the case of the Royals and A's, if the Chiefs departure from KC led to a new team taking their place, expansion or otherwise, I'm sure my loyalty would shift to the new team first and the Chiefs second.

That's the way it should be.<P>

i've been watching the Chiefs for about 12 years now...why? i think one reason is because of all the close, nailbiting games that leave me hoarse and excited! besides, ive grown up and lived near KC (st. joe...about 45 minutes north) my whole life and if you can't back the home team, why root at all?

Yes Otter, I know where you're coming from. I too have had to fend off obnoxious Steeler fans for about 7 years now. Not as bad now that both teams are crappy. Not as many Eagles fans where I live though. (I know IUP too, I go to Lock Haven myself!)

I became a Chiefs fan whan I was born 23 years ago in Leavenworth, Kansas. My whole family love the Chiefs and I accepted and embraced the tradition. What was I to do? All I could do was imitate my family. I was the happiest kid in the world when we beat the Bengals in 1988, the year they went to the Super Bowl. I have always rooted for the Chiefs and I always will. Like 5decadechiefsfan I can't understand how people can switch loyalties every year. That's not the way I was raised and I know it's not the way my fellow Chiefs fans were raised.

My Dad's side of the family all live in KC. My Grampa always listened to the Royals and the Chiefs on the radio and took me to see the Chiefs or Royals when our family was in town. I was born and raised in Omaha 220 miles up the road. Saw my first game against the Chargers in old Municipal Stadium downtown. Remember all the helmets that surrounded-sp the top of the stadium. I could never follow another team. It baffles me when people like Denise on the Star BB confesses to having two favorite teams and there both in the division(Raiders and Chiefs)But then she's a Democrat and illogical [img]http://www.chiefsplanet.com/ubb/biggrin.gif[/img]

The first NFL game that I ever attended was th Chiefs vs. teh Vikings in 1973 or 1974. I almost froze as I watched the Chiefs lose to the Vikes. Been a fan ever since. I was also a fan of the cardiac Cardinals and went to a lot of games in St. Louis, but when they left town, I devoted myself to the Chiefs. I hated Bidwell even before he moved the Cardinals.

I cannot be a Rams fan, even though several members of family are Rams Fans. Two of them even have season tickets to the Rams.

During my teen years, about the only thing my Dad and I could agree on was the Kansas City Chiefs.

Held things together till I was smart enough to realize he was right about almost everything else.

Sorry, I need to take a little time to gloat.

Last night my family attended a benefit auction for the local Boys Club. There was a pretty big crowd on hand.

In checking out the items for sale, my 5 year old boy spied a full size Chiefs flag. The little guy waited patiently while they auctioned off all kinds of stuff from dart boards to real ponies.

When the Chiefs flag came up he jumped to his feet and glanced in my direction. I told him he better raise his hand. He started jumping up and down with both arms raised. The auctioneer asked me if the little guy was actually bidding and I yelled back that it sure looked to me like he was.

The price quickly rose past 30 dollars and the little guy kept jumping. It came down to him and one other guy bidding. The other guy bid it up to $40. The auctioneer pointed to my boy and asked $42.50? Joe was still waving his arms so the auctioneer pointed back to the other guy and asked him for $50. I think that confused the other guy and he hesitated just a second. The auctioneer turned and yelled SOLD to my boy.

The crowd erupted and Joe gave several high 5's on his journey to the front when he picked up the flag.

I don't remember the exact moment I became a life long Chiefs fan but I will remember when my son joined the brotherhood.
