Maybe the DB guru's here can help me with this.
I too use 80 (the max). I because I hate excessive clicking (and the delay of waiting for a reload). I have joined a few other vbb boards recently and I noticed that all of them have a limit of 40. After noticing this I felt quite lucky to have an admin who was smart enough to up that limit to 80. But that got me wondering if there is a database reason for limiting the size of the page (and therefore the corresponding query). Could the fact that (based on this small sample) a large majority of our regular posters are setup for larger queries be a cause of our database problems. Or maybe it would be better to ask if this setting is a greater burden on the database (and therefore making the db problems worse)? I guess the other side of the coin is that with 40 or 20 or whatever... you end up with more DB queries as people click 2, 3 or 4 times for each 1 time they would if it's set at 80. Just curious... |
