Why start this thread now?
Either way, who says Torre is a good manager? Look at his record before he got to the Yanks. Money can't buy happiness, but it sure as hell can buy wins. We don't need him and shouldn't want him. |

Torre had a $180+ million payroll the last 6 years.
Could somebody tell me how many WS he won during that time? I don't remember. |

You don't want him.
I've seen him manage a normal team (the early 90's Cardinals). He's a cigar store indian, couldn't manage a bullpen to save his life. |

What is the Royals coaching situation? I don't follow them and don't really care about them (Cards fan) but I was thinking they fired their coach mid-season and the new guy actually was doing the team some good. Was the guy just an interm? Did he choke and put his head on the block?
Not really sure about Torre as a manager. I know it would have been tough for anyone to follow Whitey Herzog in StL. Tony has been a really good coach for StL. Torre just kinda fizzled there and basically just filled a few years between Herzog and LaRussa. I think his success had a lot to do with the players the owner brought it and I really doubt he'd be a coach that would help the Royals much. Don't get me wrong, as a Cardinals fan, I think he'd be a great pickup for you. But in the best interest of the Royals, the coach you had in the second half of the season who was making the push to trade players for multiple young players may do more for your team in the long run. Personally, I think the Royals organization would have been much better of had Brett been allowed to buy the team instead of Glass blocking the sale, resgining from the commitee and buying it himself. Brett might have struggled with capitol and not been able to afford some players, but Glass seems to be trying to run the team like they were a walmart and trying to go cheap.

The Royals replaced their GM during the season, not their manager.

OK. Like I said, I don't follow them. I knew they had made a change but didn't know where.
