Fox continues it's 'drop quality to promote crap' tradition
FOX Shifts 'American Dad,' May Trim 'Development'
(Wednesday, February 09 09:02 AM) LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Even though its reviews were almost universally middling-to-negative, the preview of "American Dad" drew more than 15 million viewers to FOX on Sunday (Feb. 6) night. That successful performance has prompted FOX to juggle its future Sunday line-up, which may mean bad things for Emmy-winning comedy "Arrested Development." "American Dad," the new animated comedy from "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, will still have its real premiere on Sunday, May 1. FOX has, however, moved the show up an hour from 9:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. ET. "American Dad" will now officially launch between the 350th episode of "The Simpsons" and the fourth season premiere of "Family Guy." The series, which will air encores as part of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block, focuses on mid-level CIA agent Stan Smith, his wife, his two kids, his alien and his fish with the brain of a German guy. FOX also announced that the schedule will allow the first three episodes of "American Dad" to air after new episodes of "The Simpsons." As a result of the shift, "Arrested Development" will now have to end its second season by late April. According to The Hollywood Reporter, FOX is expected to reduce its order for "Arrested Development," though specifics haven't been announced. Despite endless critical acclaim and awards attention, "Development" is averaging only 6.06 million viewers per week this season in the Sunday 8:30 p.m. time slot. |

That sucks. American Dad wasn't nearly as funny as family guy, whereas Arrested Development is brilliant. Gaah.

Great thinking there FOX. If a show does well after the superbowl it will definitly get those types of ratings on its own

I hate Fox. Seriously who runs these networks? If I made decisions as poor as they do I sure as hell wouldn't be employed very long. In addition they're jumping back on the Family Guy bandwagon like they had something to do with it's success. I guess its a necessary evil to produce more episodes.

Cartoon actors don't make salary demands. Niether do reality "actors".
It's the future of TV. NBC goes from paying the friends cast 1 million per episode to giving away 10 grand on Fear Factor. It's one of the main reasons I watch very little network TV anymore. At least the cable channels are trying to provide TV shows that aren't solely driven by budget....to a point.

The American Dad pilot had some high points (the German fish was choice), some rough edges (a lot of which I'll chalk up to being the pilot), and a bunch of laughs. Family Guy-esque, of course, but far less reliant on the flashbacks that make FG so great. In other words, I have high hopes that it'll be McFarlane-based brilliance with enough differences to keep from being called a Family Guy clone.

Shit... FOX is completely worthless aside from their Sunday night shows. I didn't discover Arrested Development until December. I was missing out.

They're not Family Guy or Arrested Development great, but they're both pretty watchable, especially compard to most of the rest of the shit FOX has churned out, in my book.

AD is about to join Freaks and Geeks, Futurama, Tru Calling, Wonderfalls and host of other decent shows dumped by Fox. |

Principal: Smith, what's the meaning of this?
Steve: Principal Lewis, I'm taking your office. Pursuant to Pearl Bailey High Statute 39F, quote, "The student body council president may acquisition any room on school premises for the purpose of conducting school business." Principal: You can read! THE SYSTEM WORKS! I'll be back for my stuff.
