Listening to Sirius NFL radio today..

And they had a clip from one of the shows on that had Priest on recently.

In the clip, the host asked Priest if he would restructure or help free up some cap dollars to sign some free agents because 2005 could be the swan song for Vermeil, Trent, himself, the OLine, etc..

Priest's response: "No way, let them dig into their pocket books - I've worked too hard to get my money."

I agree about digging into their own pockets, but it's obvious that Priest is content with making his money and won't help the team out even if it meant signing an impact FA for the betterment of the team.

I bet Trent and T-Rich restructure. I know he has his signing bonus, but Priest has made something like 600,000 in base salary the last couple years, this year his base salary finally jumps up to 2.2 million.... I guess he doesn't want to give that up. I think Trent will restructure, he's got an even bigger jump in base salary, something like 1 1/2 million to over 4 million. He himself could restructure and probably clear enough space to sign another FA. It seems like a lot of our guys have big jumps in base salary next year.

I can't really blame him. An undrafted free agent who then had to look for 2nd or 3rd teir FA money. He finally gets a payday he deserves and he should accept a pay cut?

I'd feel more comfortable asking those on the team who were high picks/underacheivers (Woods/Sims/Warfield/Barber/Morton) to accept pay cuts rather than Priest. He's the biggest reason this team hasn't been a 4-win team the last four years.

That said if that is how he feels, he should come up with a more diplomatic response.

When you restructure your salary, you aren't giving up money. You get the money in the form of a signing bonus or another creative way to take cap dollars away. He got his signing bonus, his base salary would be cut, but that money would be given to him in another signing bonus that could be spread out for the rest of his deal.

But Priest doesn't seem to be receptive to that. He tries to come across as the ultimate team guy, but everything I've seen/read from him make me question that.

when Priest was put on IR, he said it would free up some cap space. Bonus clauses unmet I reckon. Maybe it was enough to help get Collins, Fuj & or Biesel re-signed

That Texans game sold me on Priest.

He's the only mother****er on the the team who actually seemed to give a $#it that the Texans were going to return a TrINTerception for a TD, and ran 80 yards to try and catch him.

And damned near did...

From all the way across the field...

On a bad ancle...

Priest is right: he EARNED his money. Let the rest of the half-hearted-slobs take a cut. Like 3/4ths of our _efense. Or Morton. Or Sims. Or Hicks. Or just ****ing shoot Bartee between the eyes...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Let Bartee, Holliday, Sims and the rest of the underachievers pay for the FAs by losing their jobs or asking them to restructure. Those are the guys that should chip in because they sure don't chip in on the field like Priest does.

Whoah...

I don't agree at all with Wesley. And while Woods play last year is deserving of a pipe to the back of the leg, his past excellence should at least save him from the firing squad...

Ehh, I just threw the whole secondary in there. I was too lazy to list the linebackers.

Wesley came on at the end of last year. Woods, I dunno. He went from penthouse to outhouse in a damned hurry. To say Woods underachieved last season is being kind.

The only thing saving Woods is the 7 year deal he signed last year. His cap hit is way too much.
