I've had a Craftsmen for about 5 years now, with no complaints. Starts up fine after every winter.
The biggest thing I'd probably look for is ease of changing/refilling string. I know they've come a long way over the years.

I had a "Green Machine" for twenty years before it finally was worn out. I replaced it three years ago with a Ryobi, nice machine. Here is a site that may be helpful to you:http://www.consumerdemocracy.com/phe...aspx?catId=148

My Ryobi is going on 8 yers now. It works really well. No cords, and no gas to mess with, however it only works well on grass. It's not powerful enough to chop down the monster weeds.
