SAN DIEGO CONFERENCE CALL

Q: What do you take out of last week’s loss?

ALLEN: “Well you really just kind of treat it like anything else. You have to clear it and watch the film learn from it and go out on the practice field make the correction and get ready for the next game.”

Q: Are you focused on still having a chance to make the playoffs?

Johnson(WTF?): “We are not really focusing that. We are trying to finish the season off on a positive note. We are trying to get one win in here on Saturday and take it one game at a time. Win this one and then the next one and if the playoffs are in our future they will work out for themselves.”

Q: Is this one of those games where you’re playing for pride?

JOHNSON: “I don’t know if it’s pride but it’s a division team and you always want to win in your division and especially at home so we are not trying to knock anybody out. We are just trying to win games and help better our chances of getting into the playoffs.”

Q: Your run defense had been so good. What happened against the Giants?

ALLEN: “We were in position to make the plays and we just didn’t make them. We just weren’t tackling and a couple of times we weren’t in position, so it was sloppy on our half of not tackling. It was a sloppy fundamental game and we have to work on it this week and we will be ready to go.”

Q: Have you watched tape of all of RB LaDainian Tomlinson’s games this season?

ALLEN: “Just watching the last few games. He looks good he is running good and he is a talented back so he will be ready to play and we are going to be ready for him.”

Q: Does it make a difference who is lining up against you at offensive tackle?

ALLEN: “I have played against them both and so whoever they put out there is who I have to go against and there is film on both of them so I will be able to watch and make my game plan accordingly.”

Q: You’ve got 10.0 sacks. Was that your goal?

ALLEN: “My personal goal was 15.0 but you take what you can get and I have been fortunate enough to get 10.0 so far this year. I’ll see what I can do these last two games.”

Q: Why is Arrowhead one of the league’s toughest places to play, particularly in December?

ALLEN: “Our fans our great. This place is loud and it’s rocking and it gets cold and you have to be able to play in the cold weather and stand the noise. It’s a tough place to play anytime of the year just because of our fans.”

Q: Will it be like a playoff atmosphere with playoff possibilities still on the line for both teams?

ALLEN: “I think it’s going to be like these last two games we have had. It’s going to be very much like a playoff atmosphere. I mean the Chargers they got to come in here and they’re trying to get a win to help their playoff berth and we are trying to get a win to keep our playoff berth alive and so it’s going to be a playoff game. It’s pretty much a lose-and-go-home type of deal. That is going to be the atmosphere and that is going to be the emotional side of it, that nobody wants to lose. Our seasons are on the line and it’s going to be high intensity.”

Q: Do the Chargers have one of the best offensive units in football?

ALLEN: “They are good. They are probably the best group that works well together. They are going to go out there and play their game. The offense is going to do their thing and no one will be too over-emotional for this. It’s just another game but we got to go out there just to prepare to win.”

Q: What’s more important to your running game, the back or the offensive line?

ALLEN: “I am pretty sure it’s about 50-50. The offensive line obviously has to create the holes for them to get through but the running back has to see the whole to hit it and then break the tackles when necessary. Both RB Priest (Holmes) and RB Larry (Johnson) are awesome and I am sure they will be the first ones to give all the credit to their offensive line and our line does a great job.”

Q: Were you surprised by the success that RB Michael Turner enjoyed last week?

ALLEN: “Not really. I mean we saw them in the preseason this year when he was killing it. Every time he got in he was making plays. He has a knack of finding the end zone. It didn’t take anybody by surprise.”

Q: Do you think about a couple games that got away that might mean the difference between making the playoffs and missing them?

ALLEN: “Definitely, we let about three games get away and there is nothing we can do about it. You can sit, kick and moan about it but it’s not going to change the outcome that we let three slip away. All we can do is be thankful we still have a chance this day and go out what we need to get done.”

Q: What do you think Coach Vermeil’s decision will be after the season?

ALLEN: “I love Coach Vermeil. I mean he gave me my first job, obviously. But that is a personal decision he has to make and hopefully I’ll be here if he is here or not here. Hopefully he will make a decision that is right for him, what he feels right for this organization and this team. That is a personal decision on his behalf and he has been doing it for a long time so no one can fault him either way. If he decides to stay, great. If he decides to leave I am sure we will have a big retirement party for him and send him off right.”
