Wahhhhhh!!!!!

FROM THE KANSAS CITY STAR

Pujols thinks he was snubbed

Albert Pujols is upset he lost to Philadelphia’s Ryan Howard for the National League MVP award.

“I see it this way: Someone who doesn’t take his team to the playoffs doesn’t deserve to win the MVP,” Pujols said Wednesday from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Pujols this year led the Cardinals to their first World Series championship since 1982. Howard and the Phillies missed the playoffs — though they won two more regular-season games than St. Louis.

Howard got 20 first-place votes for MVP and 388 points in balloting by a panel of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Pujols received 12 first-place votes and 347 points.

I really like Pujols every other time because he is a freakin nasty good hitter and all around ball player........but him crying like a little girl because someone had a better year and got the MVP is just not what he should be doing. Ryan Howard deserved it, no matter if his team got to the playoffs or not! There is no rule that the MVP needed to go to the playoffs to win the award. Try not getting hurt during the year and missing any time, Howard did it at the same position Pujols played, so no excuses there.

I totally agree that he needs to be taken away in a wambulance right now.

The award is not MVPPT (MVP on a Playoff Team). It's MVP.

That being said, Pujols probably should have won it.

I like using Win Shares as a simple rubric to show how useful a player is. Pujols led both leagues with 39 Win Shares. Beltran was second in the NL with 38 Win Shares. Howards was sixth in the NL with 31 Win Shares.

In the AL, Jeter actually led with 33 Win Shares. Mourneau only had 27 Win Shares. Honestly, I would have considered voting for another twin (Joe Mauer with 31 Win Shares) because that's an incredible number for a catcher.

Angel Berroa, for those who are interested, was worth one win share for our Royals last year. A league average shortstop would probably have helped us win another 12 or 13 games . . .

Winning the world series isn't enough for me, I want to be the MVP too.

What a sandy berginer. Crying about not winning an individual award? This is for you, Alberta:

The MVP has traditionally went to a player on a playoff team. When it hasn't its been given to a player on a playoff team its been because the player has completly outclassed his competion. Not the case this year. Baseball is very traditional orientated sport. He has a legitamate complaint.
Pujols batted .331 with 49 home runs and 137 RBIs
Howard hit .313 with 58 homers and 149 RBIs.

Albert was robbed. I would be pissed too if I were him. But he did get his WS ring and that trumps
MVP in my book.

Go get another ring Albert and use the MVP voting
as one hell of a motivator for next summer.

Yeah, whatever. This guy just can't stop whining. Even Bernie Miklasz on his radio show talks about how sullen he has become, especially to the media. The Cardinals are lucky they went on a hot streak in the playoffs - that clubhouse was about to erupt. Apparently they are very divided - Rolen and Pujols don't particularly like each other, for example.

Anyhow, my take is that players from teams that make the playoffs, not because they have a good record, but because their division was tremendously weak.

This guy's ego is unbelievable - the Phillies WON MORE GAMES THAN THE CARDINALS. No, they didn't go to the playoffs, but only because they played in a division that actually had a good team.

Pujols "led" his team to 83 wins.
Howard led his team to 85 wins.

Pujols juiced his bod, this is payback.

Same thing is going to happen to Mark McGuire (hall of fame vote), he may not even get enough votes to keep him on the next ballet.

Wonder which BB writers voted for whom? East Coast bias maybe?

We got the WS, the ultimate prize.

Let's see where Howards numbers are in 5 years.

Albert Pujols numbers are top 5 of all players to play the game in 5 years.

No kidding. The MVP is the one player who was more valuable to his team than anyone else was to theirs.

Cardinal fans want to side with Pujols just because. But which team loses more, the Cardinals without Sandy Alberta or the Phillies without Howard?

Besides, Alberta, "bias" would be not seeing that the Phillies won more games in a better division than your team did. St. Louis did manhandle Detroit in the world series - with you hitting .200. That alone should tell you that the team was bigger than just you.

To me, this is the height of arrogance - he claiming that he himself is the most valuable player in the league is tantamount to saying he is the reason why the team won the world series. Maybe he should take that up with David Eckstein.

You'd think that Cards fans would be a little more apt to congratulate Howard, a St. Louis native.

He's a great player, but just he won the MVP last year and now he's whining about this year. And last I checked, he wasn't exactly "the man" in the postseason while they were making their run. I like Pujols, but that's ridiculous. He wouldn't be in the postseason if he were in the same division as the Mets either (as mentioned by 83 vs 85 wins).

The AL players snubbed have a much better argument. Morneau was the third most valuable player on his own team!

Albert was injured for a good chunk of June and missed lots of at-bats. He should have got the award. Screw Howard and the Phillies.

But he also shouldn't whine about it - just adds a bit more embarrassment for me after LJ's crap.

And again, I wonder if this wasn't a case of reporters putting words in his mouth.

He didn't win the MVP because Albert has a white coach. If he had a dominican coach than he probably would already have 800 homeruns.
